Rory McIlroy had not yet won a major tournament in 2012 heading into this weekend's PGA Championship. He made sure his big win on Sunday was worth the wait.

Heading into Sunday, some familiar names were hovering around the top of the leaderboard at the 2012 PGA Championship in South Carolina. Tiger Woods. Vijay Singh. Carl Pettersson. But ultimately, the young man who held a share of the lead as the rain-delayed third round and championship fourth round began on Sunday picked up a dominating win in the major event.

The day belonged to Rory McIlroy, who shot a 6-under fourth round to finish at an impressive 13-under in the tournament. Even more impressive? The runner-up was David Lynn, who could only manage a 5-under in the event.

Singh plummeted with a 5-over final round and wound up in a tie for 36th with a cumulative 3-over. Woods, meanwhile, shot an even par in his fourth round and his 2-under was only good for an 11th place tie. Pettersson was one of four golfers who finished in a third-place tie at 4-under.

Here's what the top-ten prize money breakdown looks like. As a reminder, prize money for ties is determined by pooling the money, then splitting it equal ways amongst the competitors.

Rory McIlroy finished in first place and received the main prize money with over $1,445,000. David Lynn finished second and ended up with $865,000.

Carl Pettersson, Justin Rose, Keegan Bradley and Ian Poulter earned $384,500 in a tie for third. Blake Adams, Jamie Donaldson, Peter Hanson & Steve Stricker ended up making $226,000 in a tie for seventh.

Sadly, it looks as if no Seattle-type golfers came up with no prizes at all. Ben Crane, Corey Prugh, Jeff Coston, Kyle Stanley and Ryan Moore all ended up missing the cut. None of them ended up earning any prize money.

The 2012 PGA Championship was completely dominated by the young Rory McIlroy, cruising to a major championship on Sunday afternoon. He broke Jack Nicklaus' record for the largest stroke lead to win a major as he shot a -13, defeating David Lynn (-5) and the rest of the field by eight strokes.

McIlroy shot a -6 on Sunday, tied for the best mark of anyone in the tournament on Sunday afternoon. The win marks the second major championship win of his short career. He will undoubtably remain No. 1 player in the world throughout the rest of the year.

Tiger Woods did not finish the Championship strong, shooting an even par-72 on Sunday. He finished tied for 11th place at -2, although Tiger would say he expected more of himself after a strong start in the earlier rounds.

Justin Rose, Keegan Bradley, Ian Poulter and Carl Pettersson all tied for third place at -4 overall. Phil Mickelson placed 36th after shooting a +3.

As the final round of the 2012 PGA Championship is getting underway, Englishman Ian Poulter is making a strong charge up the leaderboard on Sunday. But leader Rory McIlroy maintains a three shot lead at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.

Currently sitting at 5-under for the day after six holes played, Poulter has moved himself to 6-under for the tournament. As for McIlroy, who just got underway, he's maintaining his lead after a great start of two-under par after three holes.

Peter Hansen, Adam Scott and Bo Van Pelt are all tied for third at the moment at 4-under for the week.

As for Tiger Woods, he is one-under for the day as well, five holes into his final round. He'll need to get hot in a hurry if he wants to claim the Wannamaker for the fifth time.

The 2012 PGA Championship in South Carolina will hopefully be completed on Sunday. The third round on Saturday was delayed due to weather, meaning that round will have to be completed on Sunday before the fourth and final round can get underway.

When the third round resumes, Rory McIlroy and Vijay Singh will be tied atop the leaderboard at 6-under. Adam Scott is close behind, at 5-under.

The players are expected to be back out on the course at 4:45 a.m. PT -- weather permitting -- and will finish up their round. The fourth round is expected to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT.

The fourth round (and probably part of the third round) of the PGA Championship airs Sunday from 5 a.m. - 11 a.m. PT on TNT, then will switch over to CBS for coverage from 11 a.m. PT until the end of the day, however long that may take. You will be able to stream par-3 holes and cover marquee pairings live online at PGA.com. There is also a free PGA Championship app for mobile devices that will feature live video and leaderboard updates.

Round 3 of the 2012 PGA Championship has been suspended due to thunderstorms and will resume Sunday morning. Play was suspended with the leaders just approaching the midpoint of the course, and the way things currently stand Vijay Singh and Rory McIlroy are tied for the lead. Tiger Woods and Carl Pettersson, both of whom opened the day tied with Singh for the lead, slipped in the rankings.

Pettersson fared better than Woods, shooting an even par through eight and sitting at 4-under, good for fourth place. Woods collected three bogeys in the first seven holes, leaving him 1-under overall and tied for 11th place. Bo Van Pelt was one of the big risers in Round 3, he moved 19 spots up the leaderboard with a score of 5-under in Round 3, leaving him ties for fifth place at 3-under overall.

Round 3 will resume at 4:45 a.m. PT. The final round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT. There's plenty of golf left to play, so things are far from settled at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.
Round 3 of the 2012 PGA Championship has been suspended due to thunderstorms, but prior to that there was some major movement on the leaderboard. Tiger Woods had opened the day tied for the lead with Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson, but as the leaders finished up the front nine only Singh was still in front.

Singh was 2-under through seven holes, good for 6-under overall and a share of the lead. Rory McIlroy shared it with him, having shot 4-under through nine to arrive at 6-under in total. Pettersson was hanging on, shooting even par through eight and sitting in fourth place. It was Tiger who struggled the most, picking up bogeys on holes four, five and seven to slide to a tie for 11th place at 1-under overall.

That was where things stood when play was suspended, and it is unclear whether play will resume on Saturday or the conclusion of Round 3 will have to wait until Sunday. In either case, tournament victory is still wide open with a lot of golf left to play.
There has been a lot of movement on the leaderboard during the third round of the 2012 PGA Championship. While the co-leaders are not teeing off for another half-hour or so, many have played well enough today to put themselves in contention for a major championship with just one round left to play.

Bo Van Pelt has started his day very well, shooting a -4 through the first eight holes of the day. He's now at -2 in the tournament, which is good for a fifth-place tie and only two strokes back of the leaders. Padraig Harrington has also shot four-under after eight holes, tying him with Van Pelt on the leaderboard.

Steve Striker birdied four of his final five shots on the front-nine to move himself into the top-10 earlier in the day, but he has since shot a +1 and is now at one-under for the event. Justin Rose also started out strong but faltered late; he birdied five of his first ten holes, but has bogeyed twice since then to drop him to +1 overall.
