It's been an exciting start to Seattle Seahawks training camp, and quarterback Matt Flynn has been getting in a lot of reps so far. Flynn went on with Softy & Hugh Millen on KJR in Seattle to discuss how camp has been going for him, how he feels the quarterback competition is, and how he feels about Terrell Owens becoming a Seahawk.

On if he'd like more reps in practice:

"No, you can't do that to yourself. If you start thinking about stuff like that and thinking about stuff that you can't control, then that's when you start falling into traps and you start not performing well on the field. So we all know the situation that we're competing, and any one of us quarterbacks is gonna say, ‘Yeah, we'd like some more reps,' but we know that it's a competition. So it's not our job to control the amount of reps. It's just our job to go in there and perform when we do get them."

On how he found out Terrell Owens was working out for the team:

"I got a call from a buddy of mine back home, who saw a rumor of it and was like, ‘Hey, you might have T.O. coming up there.' It was our off day when he came up here so I came up here and met him, talked to him a little bit right after his workout. You hear people say different things about different guys, but I came up here and met him, had a great conversation with him. He seemed like an extremely nice guy, guy that wanted to get to work and was excited just to have the opportunity. And really told me that he just wants to be a part of something special."

On Owens in practice thus far:

"He's very smooth. He's been one of the best in the league for a long time, and for a good reason. He's very smooth, he's obviously a physical specimen. Big guy, big hands, big strong hands. And he got out there the first day and ran some some routes that aren't easy to just get out there and run your first day and haven't run them in a while. Ran them smoothly. I could read him out of his break, so it was good."

- - -

It's going to be a tight race for the No. 1 spot on the QB depth chart, but the Seahawks didn't bring Flynn in for nothing. And with a veteran receiver like Owens to give him advice, he could very well be the starter come opening day.

The Seahawks have already broken another rule of the new NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement - their second this offseason - by allowing or directing free agent signee Terrell Owens to wear his shoulder pads at his first practice earlier this week. You may remember that the Seahawks were also docked two days of OTA practices in June because it was determined that there had been too much contact in an earlier practice.

Both rules - one attempting to limit contact for players during the offseason and the second to allow players to acclimate themselves to a new team for three days prior to going full-pads - are closely related under the new CBA that aims to improve player health and lengthen careers.

According to Mike Sando, as a result of this indiscretion, which the Seahawks have admitted to inadvertently allowing, coach Pete Carroll and the team could face fines under terms of the collective bargaining agreement. "The CBA subjects coaches to fines of $100,000 on the first offense and $250,000 on the second offense," Sando notes."Corresponding fines for teams can be $250,000 or $500,000. The commissioner can impose lower fines, or no fines, if he determines teams acted in good faith or did not commit a material violation of the rules."

These are minor violations, and this fine could possibly cost coach/team more than half a million big ones, but in the big picture, is a speedbump. However, if it's true that they simply weren't aware of the rule, I'd be willing to be a full-time CBA reader and compliance officer for much less than that. If they're looking to save some money next time. I'm just saying. Maybe they don't have time to read this stuff, with all the tape watching. And scouting. And playing football and lifting weights and stuff. Just delegate it me or something? I'm pretty good at reading. My girlfriend is a lawyer.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has a lot of connections in the game of football. Decades of coaching at the pro and collegiate level will do that for you. But sometimes those connections pay off big, and Carroll's tie with his former USC quarterback Carson Palmer could dish out big dividends as Palmer played the part of cheerleader for Terrell Owens signing with Seattle.

Carroll called Palmer for his opinion on the 38-year old receiver, and had nothing but high praises for T.O:

"Coach had reached out to me a couple times and you know just knowing coach's style and the way he goes about teaching and leading his team," said Palmer. "I just thought that TO would be a great fit. I had the opportunity to play with TO and really enjoyed playing with him. It was a great relationship and we continued to work out afterwards and didn't have anything negative to say about TO. It was a great relationship. I just let coach know that I thought he would fit in really well with his style and I think that they'll have a lot of success together."

Not only did Palmer and Owens play together with the Cincinnati Bengals, they also trained together during the offseason (and when they both were looking for jobs) in the Los Angeles area. So they certainly have a rapport. As do Palmer and Carroll, much to the delight of Owens and his future in the NFL.

Owens had been working his way back from knee surgery, trying to play football anywhere that would take him. Luckily Carroll gave him a chance, and might not have happened if it wasn't for Palmer.

"He was looking for a job anywhere." Said Palmer. "I know he's worked extremely hard to come back from the injuries he's had over the last couple years and he was looking for a spot anywhere he could go."

Hopefully things will work out well for all parties involved.

The Seattle Seahawks have some high hopes for 38-year old receiver Terrell Owens, and team GM John Schneider spoke at lenght about him on KJR in Seattle with Mitch Levy.

Schneider spoke about signing Terrell Owens, what his signing says about Sidney Rice, and how T.O. is going to fit into the team as a whole.

Make the jump to see for yourself.

On signing Terrell Owens:

"We're trying to run the most competitive atmosphere that we can here. I think we said when we got here we were going to turn over every leaf and check it out. We checked out Antonio Bryant and that didn't work out. We went down the road with Mike Williams and he wasn't able to continue at the pace that he was. We were looking for more of a power player if you will and so we heard a lot about Terrell and how he had been working out, we had done a lot of research with the last couple of clubs he was with so we brought him in and he had a heck of a workout so we decided to go ahead and if he was going to do things on our terms then we were more than happy to take a look here."

T.O. will certainly pick up the intensity and competitive pace with all his teammates in training camp, because that's just how T.O. works. Not to mention his likely knowledge that this is the end of the line for his NFL career, he can't afford to make mistakes.

How important T.O's workout was:

"In listening to everybody talk about how he takes care of himself and everything, here is a 38-year-old man that came in weighed 220 pounds and ran 4.45/4.43 and once he did that, I didn't see that coming because a lot of people talk about how fast they are and they have been taking care of themselves at this time of the year and everything, but this was true. You could see the guys' passion, you could see his intensity, his work ethic and that obviously rang through in that workout. He ran really well, dropped his hips really well, worked his way back to the ball, didn't drop a ball and was really quite impressive."

If anything T.O. has proven he's still physically able to run routes and is strong enough to compete at the NFL level. The question will be how his body will hold up over the course of a season, especially when it comes to taking hits day-in and day-out.

If this speaks to how concerned the team is about Sidney Rice's health:

"No. I thought for a guy that was going to have an operation on both of shoulders, I thought he was going to go pretty far into the preseason. I didn't know how far but he repaired both of his shoulders so I wasn't sure how quickly he'd be back. Coaches are always going to want players back as quick as they can and then personnel guys are going to say ‘let's just take care of the guy and let's make sure he's completely healthy before we put him out there.' Now at some point we all recognize that he's going to have to go out there and get banged around a little bit and be able to react appropriately to his surgeries and his rehab and everything so at some point we need to find that out but we're not just going to do it to put him out there. He's doing a nice job, he's rehabbing and he's doing everything the way we like to see him do it. In regards to the other players I totally agree and I've had discussions with several of them and this is not an indictment on what they're doing. We have some young guys we are very excited about. If anything we think this guy, with his work ethic, anybody you talk to on his other teams, whether it be Buffalo or Dallas, Cincinnati or Philly, they all talk about him being the hardest worker out there. If anything it will be positive for these guys knowing that they have to step their game up as well and obviously they look up to this guy. He's a 38-year-old man that has accomplished a lot in this league and a lot of them were in there watching the workout yesterday and all of them were very impressed like the majority of us were."

What T.O's role will be with the Seahawks

"I think it's a process that is going to take place. We felt it was early enough in training camp to do something like this. If you do something like this where you're in more like a panic mode, like the third preseason game then maybe it doesn't make sense because who knows if you have enough time to really figure out how he's going to fit in and where he's at physically. I think this gives us enough time to figure that out. From an expectation standpoint, you were saying earlier that you have a lot of people that are very excited about it and some people that aren't excited about it, I think with us, in all of our acquisitions, we're pretty much right down the middle of the road. We have to be even-keeled about everything and not get too far off kilter because that's when you start getting in trouble is when you start reacting too much to what may or may not be."

I hope Owens can be a productive part of this Seahawks squad, and keep himself clear of off the field distractions and hogging the spotlight. I think that time is past him though.

Terrell Owens has agreed to a one year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. The 38-year old future Hall of Famer was not re-signed by the Bengals following a surprisingly decent 2010 campaign in which he had 72 catches for 983 yards and 9 touchdowns, and after tearing his ACL in training that offseason, he couldn't get an NFL team to bite. He was out of football in 2011 except for a brief stint with the Allen Wranglers for the IFL.

Owens, 6'3, 224 pounds, reportedly ran a sub-4.5 40 yard dash on Monday in his workout for the Seahawks, an astounding number for a 38-year old one year removed from a torn ACL. He'll now compete for a spot on the Seahawks 53-man roster with the likes of Ricardo Lockette, Kris Durham, Braylon Edwards, and even Golden Tate as a physical, outside deep threat.

Owens, though pretty much constantly surrounded by controversy over his 15-year NFL career, is a six-time Pro Bowler, five-time All Pro, a member of the NFL 2000's All Decade Team, and a holder dozens of NFL records for receiving. This seems like a low-risk move for the Seahawks, and right in line with their M.O. This front office likes competitive types with chips on their shoulder and/or something to prove, and T.O. has that in spades. Not only does Owens still believe he can play in the NFL at a high level, he has financial motivation to stick with the team. He's apparently been working very hard to get himself back into playing shape, a success that is evidenced by his shocking workout today in which several Seahawks receivers tweeted their positive impressions.

The Seattle Seahawks brought Terrell Owens to their town this weekend, and now they could be on the verge of getting him to sign with them. Ed Werder of ESPN has initial the report that both sides are trying to get a contract done as soon as possible.

Owens missed the entire 2011 season because no team wanted to take a risk on his leg injury. Owens hasn't played in the league since 2010, when he was with the Cincinnati Bengals. Owens had 72 receptions for 983 receiving yards and nine touchdowns that season, so he's proven he can still be productive, and apparently he's still able to run at top speed (clocking 4.45 seconds during his visit).

And it should be noted that Owens might be signed for training camp, but he's no guarantee at all to make the 53 man roster. It'd just be one more chance for Owens to show that he can still be a productive member of an NFL team before he heads to retirement.

Well, you can't say the Seahawks prefer boredom. After signing Braylon Edwards as well as signing (then releasing) Antonio Bryant, the Seahawks have decided to go into the world of the one and only Terrell Eldorado Owens.
↵
Yes, Eldorado Owens will be working out for the Seahawks on Monday. Owens might be 38, but he still looks better physically than most wide receivers and his finances are in such shambles he couldn't afford to waste an opportunity. (Get it? See how ‘afford' was used. Yes, brilliant.) It may only be a workout and an opportunity to briefly torture the defensive backfield, but seeing Owens on an NFL football field is always news, no matter what comes of it.
↵
If he can contribute, Owens would bring strength and a veteran know-how to the wide receiving corps. If it doesn't pan out, well, at least now we know his middle name is Eldorado. And that in itself is worthy of numerous stories and 30 for 30 documentaries.

Could Terrell Owens be on the verge of joining the Seahawks? The wide receiver is reportedly on his way to meet with the team.

The 2012 NFL preseason kicked off on Sunday with the Hall of Fame game, which means that football with consequences is right around the corner. The Seattle Seahawks are hard at work trying to build a strong team. It seems possible that wide receiver Terrell Owens may be part of those 2012 plans.

Dave Softy Mahler of Sportsradio 950AM reported on Sunday night that Owens was on his way to Seattle to meet with the Seahawks. Mahler reported that there is no word of a tryout or contract. There is no indication in what capacity he will be meeting with the team. It may or may not be to discuss playing for the team.

Owens last played in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010.
