The Seattle Mariners lost another one-run game to the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, losing the rubber game of a three-game series by a final score of 2-1.

Coco Crisp led off the game with a home run to right field, putting the Mariners in a hole early. John Jaso evened things up with a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the second inning. Both starters held the score right there until Yoenis Cespedes hit his ninth homer of the year to center field for the 2-1 A's lead, which would end up being enough to give Oakland the win. The two home runs were the only two A's hits of the game.

The Mariners threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning, putting runners on first and second with two outs, but Ichiro Suzuki struck out to end the game.

Seattle starter Kevin Millwood had to leave the game in the third inning with a groin injury. If you recall, Millwood was forced to leave an eventual no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers a couple of weeks ago with a minor groin strain. There should soon be more detailed information about whether this will put him on the disabled list.

On Tuesday night, the Seattle Mariners hosted the Oakland Athletics in the second game of a three-game series at Safeco Field. After a tough 1-0 loss in the opener, the Mariners nearly had another heartbreaker, but were able to pull off the 3-2 win.

The Mariners ended their long two-game-plus scoreless streak in the third inning. Franklin Gutierrez hit an RBI double and Kyle Seager followed that up with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 M's.

Starter Jason Vargas kept the score right there until the seventh inning, when he gave up a home run to Yoenis Cespedes that cut the Mariners lead in half. After giving up a two-out double to Seth Smith, Vargas was pulled for Brandon League, who gave up an RBI single to Jonny Gomes that tied the game.

Vargas ended up going 6.2 innings and was charged with both runs. After giving up just three hits and two walks while striking out 10 Oakland batters, Vargas got the no-decision.

Casper Wells led off the bottom of the eighth with a single, took second on a stolen base as Dustin Ackley struck out and came in to score on a Brendan Ryan line drive over the glove of a leaping Jemile Weeks. The go-ahead run was enough to hold on for the win.

Seattle will go for the series win in the rubber game on Wednesday.

On Monday, the Seattle Mariners returned home to Safeco Field to kick off yet another series against the Oakland Athletics. Starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez was terrific, allowing just three hits and one walk in eight innings of work. Unfortunately, the Mariners came up on the losing end and were shut out for the second straight game by a final score of 1-0.

The entirety of the scoring in the game came in the top of the second inning, when Seth Smith hit a one-out home run for Oakland. Unfortunately, the run support did not show up for Ramirez.

The Mariners managed seven hits (all singles) and one walk, but were 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

The Mariners have not scored a run for 18 innings now. They'll try to get at least one on the board on Tuesday.

The Mariners host the A's yet again. Perhaps this time ... the upper hand will be on the other foot.

The Seattle Mariners have had a tough time in interleague play this season, but it's time to get back to normal. Which of course means that the Mariners will be playing yet another three-game series against the Oakland Athletics beginning on Monday. The two teams are intimately familiar with one another, but the A's have been decidedly outperforming the Mariners as of late. It's time to turn that trend around.

TV Schedule & Probable Pitchers

Monday's game will begin at 7:10 p.m. PT and will be televised on ROOT Sports. You can catch the radio broadcast on 710 ESPN. Erasmo Ramirez is still searching for his first win of the season, while the Mariners batter will hope to have decent luck against tough lefty Tom Milone.

First pitch on Tuesday will be at 7:10 p.m. PT and the game will be televised on ROOT Sports. You can catch the radio broadcast on 710 ESPN. Jason Vargas is at 7-7 and will look to climb above .500 against the 1-2 Travis Blackley.

The finale on Wednesday will begin at 12:40 p.m. PT and will be televised on ROOT Sports. You can catch the radio broadcast on 710 ESPN. Kevin Millwood didn't look especially sharp in his last outing, but he will attempt to get back in the win column as he goes up against Jarrod Parker, who is 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA.
