The Oregon St. Beavers need something to get them back on the winning track, as they're now at 1-5, have dates with Stanford and Oregon upcoming, and look to be straight on the road to a second straight year out of the postseason. They need something to get them out of this rut. They need a spark, a leader, a hero.

This might just be the message of inspiration they needed to get there. Paul Buker of the Oregonian with the story.

Riley said he can understand fans being frustrated with what is happening on the field – OSU has lost 7 out of its last 8 games and 9 out of its last 11 going back to last season – but Riley can’t understand fans being frustrated to the point where they would "key’’ a players’ car and leave a nasty anonymous note on the windshield.

It happened to Beavers’ cornerback Jordan Poyer, who made four tackles in the game, broke up two passes, and returned an interception 51 yards for a touchdown in the first half.

Riley and Poyer were both upset. It isn’t known if the person who scratched Poyer’s car was a student.

Poyer noted on Twitter Sunday, "To whoever keyed my car last night saying ‘(bleep) you win a game’ I hope you’re feeling better about yourself.’’

What a man. What a fan. You're saluted for your bravery, anonymous. I'm sure Poyer will definitely get right on it and work even harder to make appreciative fans like yourself proud. It's unbelievable fewer fans don't follow your example to rally the troops. It's almost as if they would consider this type of courage foolhardy.

The Oregon State Beavers entered Saturday's game against the BYU Cougars looking for their second win of the season on the heels of last week's 27-17 victory over the Arizona Wildcats. Through four quarters of up-and-down play, the Beavers kept it close but ultimately fell 38-21 to the Cougars.

The Beavers inadvertently followed the same game plan each and every quarter on Saturday: they started out slowly and then picked it up in the latter stages of the period. In the first quarter, the Beavers managed only one first down before the Cougars took over and scored on a 10-yard run from running back Michael Alisa. Oregon State bounced back by putting together a strong drive that left the Beavers on the BYU 12-yard line at the end of the period.

The Beavers started out slow again in the second period, beginning with a 40-yard interception by quarterback Sean Mannion that resulted in another BYU score. The Beavers responded once again with a one-yard Mannion touchdown run and a 51-yard pick-six of Cougars quarterback Riley Nelson. The Beavers and Cougars entered halftime tied 14-14.

In the third quarter, Oregon State turned the ball over three times (once on a Mannion interception, once on a Malcolm Angew fumble and once on a Colby Prince fumble) to allow BYU to get ahead again. The Cougars scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Nelson to Cody Hoffman and a 33-yard field goal by Justin Sorensen for a 10-point lead. The Beavers, however, came back once again late in the period with a 59-yard touchdown strike from Mannion to Brandon Cooks.

The Beavers entered the fourth quarter down 24-21, but their early-quarter struggles this time around would prove to be their undoing. BYU scored on a two-yard pass from Nelson to JD Falslev and (following a 48-yard missed field goal by Beavers kicker Trevor Romaine) tacked on a second touchdown with an eight-yard pass from Nelson to Kaneakua Friel. Jovan Stevenson fought back late in the quarter with a two-yard touchdown run, but the Beavers had fallen too far behind by that point to come back and ended the game with a 38-28 loss.

Mannion finished the game with 305 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions on 27-of-43 passing. Agnew led the Beavers in rushing with 47 yards on 10 carries but also had a fumble. Markus Wheaton led the Beavers receivers with 104 yards on eight receptions, though he failed to record a touchdown.

The Beavers fall to 1-5 on the season with this loss. Oregon State takes to the road with games against Washington State and Utah before a home match-up with Andrew Luck and No. 7 Stanford.

The Oregon State Beavers and BYU Cougars were tied 14-14 at halftime, but turnovers in the third quarter have placed the Beavers at a disadvantage heading into the game's final period. The Beavers find themselves down by three points, 24-21, with one quarter left to play.

The Cougars received the second half kickoff and used a seven-play drive to pull ahead. Quarterback Riley Nelson connected with Cody Hoffman on a 12-yard pass to give BYU a 21-14 advantage in the early stage of the third quarter.

Quarterback Sean Mannion struggled when the Beavers got the ball back, throwing an interception on the Beavers' fourth play from scrimmage. The Cougars couldn't convert on the error as kicker Justin Sorensen missed a 53-yard field goal just a few plays later.

Oregon State didn't help its cause much over the next few plays. The Beavers fumbled the ball away twice (once on a Malcolm Agnew carry, once on a Colby Prince reception), giving the Cougars ample time with the ball and somehow concluding in only one field goal (a 33-yard field goal by Justin Sorensen) to make the score 24-14.

The Beavers didn't let the quarter get away from them and responded with a 59-yard touchdown pass from Mannion to Brandin Cooks, cutting the lead to 24-21. The Cougars now have the ball and begin the fourth quarter on Oregon State's 41-yard line.

The Oregon State Beavers opened the second quarter down 7-0 against the BYU Cougars. Similar to their performance in the first quarter, the Beavers struggled early in the second period but finished strong. Oregon State enters halftime with a 14-14 tie, scoring 14 unanswered points to rebound from a 14-0 deficit.

The Beaves were in position to score at the beginning of the second quarter, located at the Cougar 12-yard line. The Cougars secondary, however, came up with a big stop when linebacker Kyle Van Noy intercepted Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion in the red zone and returned the football for 40 yards. BYU took the ball down the field and scored on a three-yard rushing score by senior JJ Di Luigi, giving them a 14-0 advantage.

Mannion bounced back on the next drive and helped the Beavers get on the score board, helping Oregon State move 57 yards down the field and punching in a one-yard rushing score to pull the Beavers within seven points.

The Cougars could not hold onto possession for long on the succeeding drive, running just one play before running back Michael Alisa fumbled the ball away to return. Oregon State reclaimed possession but failed to register score, missing on a 41-yard field goal attempt by Trevor Romaine to keep the score 14-7.

The Beavers would score again before the end of the half, though. Just three plays after the missed field goal, Jordan Poyer intercepted Cougars quarterback Riley Nelson and returned the ball for a 51-yard touchdown, tying the score at 14-14. Oregon State blocked a 49-yard field goal attempt by BYU's Justin Sorensen in the half's final seconds to maintain the score.

Mannion enters halftime with 108 yards and one interception on 9-of-16 passing in addition to one rushing touchdown. Malcolm Agnew leads the Beaver rushing attack with 41 yards on eight carries and Markus Wheaton leads the Beaver receivers with 84 yards on six receptions.

BYU will receive the ball at the beginning of the second half.

The Oregon State Beavers entered Saturday's game against the BYU Cougars looking to claim their second victory of the season after last week's 27-17 win over the Arizona Wildcats. They struggled early in the first quarter and find themselves down 7-0 with favorable field position at the end of the period.

The Beavers received the game's opening kickoff but struggled offensively, recording only one first down before being forced to punt the ball away. The Cougars then pieced together a long drive that spanned 82 yards and ended up with a 10-yard touchdown run by running back Michael Alisa.

Oregon State relied heavily on the run during the following Beavers drive, using running back Malcolm Agnew to pick up yards and move the chain. Alisa has 39 rushing yards on seven carries through one quarter.

Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion has not thrown the ball often yet, passing for only 37 yards on four-of-seven- passing. Oregon State will start the second quarter with possession at the BYU 12-yard line.
