Two players with local ties earned Pac-10 All-Freshman team honors on Monday, including one lights-out shooter for the Washington Huskies. C.J. Wilcox, fresh off his 24-point second half performance on Thursday against the USC Trojans, was named to the All-Freshman team, listed among the Pac-10’s brightest young stars. UCLA’s Josh Smith was also named to the All-Freshman team after making an immediate impact for the Bruins.

The full All-Freshman team includes players from five different teams.
The Pac-10 released its awards on Monday, with Derrick Williams taking home the Pac-10 Player of the Year award, the conference’s highest honor. In addition to the individual awards, the All-Pac-10 teams were released, as well. The Pac-10 does it a bit different than most, naming 10 players, regardless of position, to the All-Pac-10 first team. Three local players made the cut, with Isaiah Thomas and Matthew Bryan-Amaning representing Washington and Klay Thompson representing Washington State.

The full first-team is as follows, released by the Pac-10 website.

It’s hard to argue many of the first-teamers, though Honeycutt is a questionable choice. Joevan Catron had an outstanding campaign for the Oregon Ducks, posting better numbers than Honeycutt while being much more valuable for the success of his team. The Oregon Ducks, largely viewed as the worst team in the conference on paper, surprised many in 2010, finishing in eighth place.

Washington State’s DeAngelo Casto was named to the All-Pac-10 second team, as well. The full list is below.

The Pac-10 released its annual list of awards on Monday and Arizona's Derrick Williams brought home the biggest award of them all. Williams was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year, beating out Washington's Isaiah Thomas and Washington State Klay Thompson for the honors. The three were locked in a tight battle throughout the season, but the Pac-10 coaches gave Williams the nod as the best player on the conference's best team, with the stats to back up his case.

Williams, a likely first-round pick in the NBA Draft should he choose to declare, had an outstanding year, even with a wrist injury that slowed him towards the end of the season. He finished the season averaging 18.8 points per game, second to Thompson, and 8.2 rebounds per game. He also finished the year with 10 double-doubles, dominating the boards and keying the Arizona offense as the Wildcats took home the regular season Pac-10 title.

Williams is the sixth Wildcat to win the Pac-10 Player of the Year award, joining Mike Bibby, Damon Stoudamire, Jason Terry, Chris Mills and Sean Elliot. Last season, Williams was named the Pac-10 freshman of the year, beating out Washington State's Reggie Moore.

The Wildcats head to Los Angeles for the Pac-10 tournament this week, taking on the winner of the Stanford-Arizona State play-in game. Stay with us as we update the rest of the Pac-10 awards in this StoryStream, including the All-Pac-10 teams.
