With time running out and the USC Trojans driving, Notre Dame needed a stop. The Fighting Irish got just that with just over 30 seconds left in the game. Quarterback Mitch Mustain threw towards the goal line with a chance to win the game, only to see the Fighting Irish come down with the ball at the one yard line. With a four point lead and possession, Notre Dame was able to run out the clock and bring home the win, 20-16.

The Fighting Irish took a 13-3 lead into the half, but saw it evaporate in the third quarter. A field goal and Mustain touchdown run leveled the score at 13 before USC took the lead in the fourth on a field goal. With two minutes to go, Notre Dame battle back, taking the lead for good on a five yard Robert Hughes run. The interception in the waining moments sealed the Notre Dame’s first win over the Trojans since 2001.

Freshman quarterback Tommy Rees had a shaky second half, finishing the game with 149 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, two of which came in the second half. Cierry Woods and Hughes combined for 158 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Irish. Michael Floyd led all receivers with 11 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Mustain didn’t have a much better day. The backup quarterback, replacing the injured Matt Barkley, threw for just 177 yards and an interception. The ground game wasn’t much better, with Marc Tyler only picking up 48 yards on 17 carries. Robert Woods led the Trojan receivers with eight catches for 81 yards.

Notre Dame finished the regular season at 7-5 with the win. USC fell to 7-5 with a game against UCLA looming next Saturday. The Trojans are not bowl eligible due to sanctions.

If anyone has seen the offensive production belonging to the USC Trojans, please alert head coach Lane Kiffin immediately. In the first half, we’ve seen more punts from the Trojans (4) than points (3). After holding Notre Dame scoreless for the first quarter, the Trojan defense finally broke, giving up 13 points in just about five minutes. That flurry of offense late in the second quarter gave the Fighting Irish a comfortable lead heading into the half, 13-3.

With starter Matt Barkley out, it’s the Mitch Mustain show in Los Angeles, and it hasn’t been pretty. Mustain, seeing his first significant action since transferring from Arkansas after his freshman year, has thrown for 44 yards on 8-15 passing. Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees ended the half on fire, leading two consecutive touchdown drive. The freshman quarterback finished the half with 122 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

With Mustain ineffective, Marc Tyler is seeing plenty of action in the backfield, carrying nine times for 32 yards. On the other side of the ball, Cierre Wood also carried the ball 10 times, rushing for 56 yards. Floyd led all receivers with 65 yards on six catches. Rhett Ellison led the Trojan receivers with two catches for 22 yards.

The Stanford Cardinal continue to look like a dominant force on the field. This week’s victim just happens to be Oregon State, fresh off a nice win over the USC Trojans in Corvallis last Saturday. Through two quarters of play, the Cardinal are all over the Beavers, .

It’s the Andrew Luck show yet again this week for the Cardinal. The junior quarterback has been a machine against the Beavers, throwing for 238 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. Doug Baldwin has been the biggest benefactor, catching four passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Ertz also added a touchdown for the Cardinal.

Ryan Katz, on the other hand, hasn’t looked good. Katz threw for just 67 yards and an interception, on a heave just before the half. Jacquizz Rodgers has been most of the offense for the Beavers, running for 31 yards on nine carries. Markus Wheaton leads the OSU receivers with 27 yards on three catches.

A win by Stanford likely sends the Cardinal into the top-5 in the polls after LSU and Boise State both lost yesterday. Oregon State needs a win, either today or in the Civil War against Oregon next week, to get bowl eligible.

With four seconds on the clock and fourth down at the one yard line, Washington decided to play for the win. With a final play, and a final push, Chris Polk slid into the end zone as time expired, giving the Washington Huskies a 16-13 win over the Cal Bears in the final game at Memorial Stadium. The win eliminates the Bears from bowl contention while keeping the Huskies in the race.

In a game that featured little offense, one final, 79 yard drive was all the Huskies needed. A 46-yard strike from quarterback Jake Locker to Jermaine Kearse put the Huskies in field goal position, setting up a frantic finish. Locker carried the team down to the one yard-line, but failed to get into the end zone on three straight quarterback sneaks. Polk did the rest, bringing home the win for Washington.

Locker had a slow day, but finished strong, throwing for 237 yards, one touchdown and one interception while running for 11 yards, including sack yardage. Polk and freshman Jesse Callier combined for 101 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. DeAndre Goodwin led all receivers with 126 yards and a touchdown, most of which came on a long, 80 yard strike in the third quarter.

For Cal, quarterback Brock Mansion was unable to get anything going all day. Mansion finished with just 92 yards and an interception on 12 of 23 passing. Shane Vereen led all rushers with 106 on 23 carries. The Bears finished the day with 283 yards of total offense, though they did get a crucial defensive touchdown on a Locker fumble.

The Bears end the season at 5-7, out of the bowl picture. Washington improves to 5-6 with a chance to become bowl eligible as they travel to Pullman for the Apple Cup next weekend against the Washington State Cougars.

The UCLA Bruins traveled to Tempe to battle the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday afternoon. After the Bruins jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter, it was all Arizona State. The Sun Devils took a one point lead into the half before pulling away in the second half.

Arizona State outscored the Bruins 34-14 in the second half en route to a 55-34 victory. At one point, the Sun Devils scored 24 unanswered points in a period spanning parts of the third and fourth quarters.

The Oregon Ducks are in a dogfight against the Arizona Wildcats at Autzen Stadium. Through one half of play, the Ducks trail the Wildcats, 19-14. Arizona came out throwing haymakers, scoring first on a 16 play, 60 yard touchdown drive that spanned nearly half the first quarter. The Ducks answered, as they have all season, with a quick strike to level the score. Darron Thomas hit tight end David Paulson to cap a four play, 58 yard drive with a 38 yard touchdown.

Arizona, however, will not go away. The Wildcats answered the bell again with a quick strike of their own on the ensuing possession. Nick Foles found Juron Criner for 85 yards on the first play of the drive to take retake the lead. Again it was Oregon forced to answer -- and they did just that. Thomas hit Jeff Maehl in the back of the end zone to level the score once again. An Oregon safety, after a long snap sailed over the head of Alejandro Maldonado and a field goal just before the half gave Arizona the 19-14 lead heading into the half.

To make matters worse for Oregon, LaMichael James was injured after take a huge hit to the head in the second quarter. James was shaken up on the play and has not returned. It appeared the star running back may have had a concussion, as trainers were checking him on the sidelines.

Heading into the second half, the Ducks need a comeback, trailing 19-14.
