For those who believe that poor decisions on the part of the referee have no impact on the game, this match just might change their mind.

After the referee ignored violent conduct on the part of the New England Revolution, Seattle seemed to fall to pieces, allowing three goals in under fifteen minutes. The Sounders also had a porous defense that couldn’t handle the long throw-ins sent by the Revs.

Marko Perovic had an impressive match tonight, scoring the second goal and in general leading the line for the Revolution.

This match should have been a lock for the Sounders, but even the best teams fall apart at times. The combination of the pressure and the poor calls contributed to the Sounders’ first loss since July 4.

And that’s the match. Ten minutes to go and it’s almost certain that the Sounders unbeaten run has ended.

Kheli Dube scores the third for the Revs

The Sounders have completely lost their focus. Kasey Keller went forward to meet the oncoming Revs player (I was still recovering from the first goal and failed to see the back of the jersey) and the ball just rolled on by.

Time to tighten up, defense. Like, five minutes ago.

Chris Tierney gets the equalizer goal on a long throw-in. The ball bounced around in the box before floating over the line.

Sounders are a bit shaken up after a couple physical bouts on the field. First Patrick Ianni was slapped across the neck by Joseph, but even clear violent conduct was not sufficient enough for the referee to show a card. However, a hip check by Fredy Montero was worthy of a yellow on the Columbian.

Nate Jaqua is now on for Alvaro Fernandez.

Steve Zakuani scores his eighth goal this season as the Seattle Sounders take the lead over the New England Revolution.

A through ball from Alvaro Fernandez followed by a perfect pass from James Riley set Zakuani up for the goal.

Seattle Sounders fans have had a bit more to worry about in this match than they have in previous games. In the last two games, the Sounders have controlled much of the possession, with little real threat from the opposition.

But the New England Revolution have been a fairly threatening presence around the goal in the first half of the match, with Kasey Keller making a few impressive saves. The Seattle Sounders defense looks frail tonight. It’s the standard starting XI for the team, but one wonders if they’re not a bit tired after Wednesday night, although neither Jeff Parke or Patrick Ianni were on the field that night. I hope that a good pep talk from Sigi Schmid will inspire a tightening along the back four.

Going forward, the Sounders have had a few shots on goal as well, but Revs keeper Matt Reis has made no mistakes. Mike Seamon looks eager to get a ball in the back of the net, having had a couple shots on target in the first half. The game hasn’t been totally terrifying, but it’s certainly not a comfortable experience for the Sounder fan.

The Seattle Sounders are in Massachusetts today, ready to take on the New England Revolution. The Revs are sitting at 13th in MLS, with really no chance at making the playoffs. They've got twenty points from all league games and sit in the fourth tier in the SB Nation Power Rankings--albeit the top of the fourth tier, so a few people have a tiny bit of faith left in New England.

The Sounders, on the other hand, are jumping from strength to strength. Back in July, most MLS observers had crossed Seattle off their lists, convinced that there was no way the team could make the playoffs. But here we are in September, sitting on 32 points and at sixth place in the MLS. The Rave Green are hoping for another three points tonight, having not lost in the league since the July 4 match against the LA Galaxy and still on a high from securing their place in the U.S. Open Cup final with their win over Chivas USA on Wednesday night.

Some interesting news from Sounders FC: Blaise Nkufo did not make the trip to Gillette Stadium. Nkufo didn't take the field in the Open Cup, and the thought is that he's suffering from a knock to his knee. Leaving him out of the trip is likely a precautionary move.

Sanna Nyassi is also not with the team, as he is away on international duty for Gambia in Africa Cup of Nations qualification. His twin brother, Sainey Nyassi, plays for The Revs but is also on international duty.

With Nate Sturgis still hurting from a knock to his ankle, Mike Seamon gets the start in midfield. Roger Levesque partners Fredy Montero up front, as Nate Jaqua played the full ninety on Wednesday during the Open Cup. And, of course, Steve Zakuani is back to full health and starting on the wing. David Estrada is off the injured reserves and eligible to play tonight.
