When players walk off the court shaking their heads and chuckling after calls made by the referee in their favor, you know something has probably gone terribly, terribly awry.

So to summarize the feeling among Indiana Fever players and coach Lin Dunn after the Seattle Storm’s 85-71 win in front of 9,083 fans at Key Arena, let’s say this: fans can openly comment on the refs, coaches and players have to allude to it and talk about something else.

“I was real disappointed in the third quarter,” said Dunn outside the visitor’s locker room after the game. “It’s hard for me to believe a team as physical, as aggressive defensively as Seattle is can play a whole third quarter with one foul. That’s gotta be a world record so I’m very disappointed in that particular stat. I did think our players let the officiating bother them some and that’s unfortunate because we need to keep our poise. But with only one foul called on them in the third quarter, I can see why it was starting to frustrate them a little bit.”

The official record shows that the Storm actually had 2 fouls in the third quarter, but that’s not the point. The point is the refs had an impact.

This was supposed to be a defensive battle.

And it is.

But if you would have told me the Fever would be at 64.3% shooting and the Storm at 57.1%, I would have laughed and called you a liar.

Lauren Jackson currently 6-6 and 4-4 from three point land for 17 points.

Fever guard Katie Douglas shooting 6-7 and 2-2 from 3 and 5-6 from the charity stripe for 19 points.

Somebody has to cool off…on offense. Wouldn’t anticipate a defensive drop off anytime soon.

In addition to the preview on Swish Appeal.com, here are a few other perspectives on tonight’s game:

- Jayda Evans adds that Seattle wants to prove that they’re the best defensive team in the WNBA in her preview for the Seattle Times.

- Kevin Pelton of StormBasketball.com has more on the Fever and an update on the knee injury Sue Bird suffered on Sunday (the knee is fine).

- Steve Cram, a native of Australia, who has been traveling to all 30 NBA cities and authors the “Traveling Sports Fan” blog will be in attendance tonight to watch the four Australian players at tonight’s game.

My next chance to see Australians in action will be this coming Friday, when I head south to Seattle to watch the Storm take on the Fever of Indiana. The Fever’s starting PG is Australian Opals veteran Tully Bevilaqua, while the Storm feature three Australians, including the most successful basketball player ever from down under, Lauren Jackson. The two teams are both in form, so as well as being a chance to support the players from my country, I should also be treated to a great game of basketball.

- Just for more Storm greatness, Pelton also informs us that Lauren Jackson has been nominated for an ESPY.

If tonight's bobblehead giveaway isn't enough reason to come to Key Arena tonight, perhaps the actual game being played will be.

The league-best 11-2 Storm look to keep their unblemished home record intact against the visiting Indiana Fever who at 8-4 are in a three-way tie in the Eastern Conference at 7 pm at Key Arena. However, after a slow start to their season, the Fever are back on track, beating the Storm last week in Indiana 72-65. The challenge? Contending with the Fever's defensive intensity.

"I think Indiana is an exceptional defensive team but we sort of have high standards of how we would like to play and we just don't feel like we met those standards there," said Storm coach Brian Agler when . "And did they have something to do with that? Yeah. Should we have had a response to that? Yes. And I don't think we quite responded to the extent we should have."

While they can't turn back the clock and change their response from the first go-round, they have a chance to redeem themselves tonight. Billed by some as a "WNBA Finals preview", tonight's game could either illustrate the Storm's home court dominance or cast a looming shadow of doubt over whether they're the best team at all.

And bobbleheads are fun for the kids too, I guess.
