The Open Championship 2012, First Round Scores: Adam Scott Leads As Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy Lurk

It was the tale of two weather reports on Thursday at Royal Lytham & St. Annes during the first round of the 2012 Open Championship. The morning group saw benign conditions ripe for the taking, while the later groups saw the wind pick up, and rain come down. And despite the best efforts from the rest of the field Adam Scott remains atop the leaderboard, though a number of big names remain very close, including Tiger Woods.

Zach Johnson, Scotsman Paul Lawrie and German Nicolas Colsaerts tied for the second-best rounds of the day after carding 5-under 65's to place themselves tied in second place. Brandt Snedeker is the lone man at 4-under after a bogey-free 66, while Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, Graeme McDowell, Ernie Els, Steve Stricker, and two others fired opening round 67's to sit at 3-under.

On the other side of the coin there were some notable players who struggled in round one, including Sergio Garcia's 2-over 72, and Phil Mickelson's and Lee Westwood's rounds of 3-over 73.
