For half of the competitors at the 2012 U.S. Open, Friday will be the last day of their tournament if they are not on the right side of the cut line. On player desperately trying to make the weekend is Oregon head golf coach Casey Martin, who had a rough go of it on Friday as he hopes to stick around for the weekend.
Martin began his day on the back nine, and immediately gave back a stroke with a bogey on No. 9. His birdie on the par-4 11th got him back to where he started, but it was all downhill from there after making the turn, carding bogies on the first, fourth, and fifth holes to push him back to 4-over for the day and 8-over for the tournament. He made par on No. 7, then found the bunker on his tee shot on No. 8, his last hole of the day, leading to an unfortunate bogey.
All-in-all Casey sits very close to the cut line at 9-over for the week, and will likely need a little help if he wants to stick around for the weekend.
