Oregon head golf coach and fan favorite Casey Martin was part of the early group that went out on the Lakes course at the Olympic Club Friday morning, trying his best to stay in contention and make the cut for the weekend. It's looking pretty good thus far after he fired a one-over 36 on his front nine this morning, which just so happened to be the back nine.
After starting with a bogey on the par-4 ninth, he gained the stroke back on the par-4 11th with a solid birdie. He would bogey the par-3 13th a few holes later, leaving him at 5-over for the week heading into his back nine, which includes the terrible difficult stretch of holes 1-6.
Hopefully Martin can find a way to stick around for the weekend.
The two players that began the day under par that are on the course already, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose have already given shots back and are both back to even for the week.
