The Daily 12-PAC: ESPN shows love to a pair of Huskies, a baseball legend could have been a WSU QB, and more

In today's edition of The Daily 12-PAC we see what ESPN's John Clayton had to say about former Washington RB Chris Polk's combine performance and NFL future, as well as an ESPN piece about current Husky QB Keith Price. We check on a QB battle garnering national attention and spring practice in the state of Oregon, and what could have been at Washington State.

See y'all after the jump.

UW's Keith Price No. 11 on PAC-12 Top 25 list

ESPN's Ted Miller has been breaking down the top 25 players from the 2011 season and Washington QB Keith Price comes in at No. 11.

Anyone who followed the Huskies this year shouldn't be surprised to see Price on the list, but for those who don't follow UW, Miller makes quite the case:

Let's start with the 33 passing touchdowns. That would be a UW single-season record. Then, there's the 3,063 passing yards -- second all time at Washington. The 66.9 completion percentage and 161.09 passing efficiency? Record and record.

And as Miller goes on to say, that puts Price in the conversation with Andrew Luck and Matt Barkley any time you're talking about the PAC-12's elite.

John Clayton: Strong combine 'really helped' Chris Polk

ESPN's John Clayton thinks Washington's Chris Polk made a strong impression at the recent NFL Combine. Clayton says Polk solidified himself as a second round pick, and could still possibly sneak into the first.

ESPN's Todd McShay wasn't as high on Polk, however. (check the link at the bottom of the story).

Personally, I think Polk's versatility is underrated, but it will be a huge asset at the next level. Also, he's doing a lot heading up to the draft to demonstrate his commitment and dedication to the game of football, as noted in the article, which certainly won't hurt his cause either.

Baseball hall-of-famer Ryne Sandberg almost was a WSU football star

Oh, what could have been. The Chicago Tribune did a feature on legendary Chicago Cub, Ryne Sandberg, a Spokane native, and spoke with former Cougars coach Jim Walden about the would-be football star. It's a good read, especially the details about the pressure Sandberg felt to choose football and Jim Walden's awkward in-home visit back in 1978.

Oregon's QB battle dubbed most significant in college football

Bruce Feldman from CBSSports takes a look the top 10 QB battles taking place this spring, and at the top of the list, none other then the battle taking place in Eugene between Bryan Bennett and Marcus Mariota.

An added bonus in Feldman's post is Thomas addressing rumors about why he left the Ducks early.

OSU releases practice schedule

Oregon State released its spring practice schedule yesterday, and although practices don't begin until April, it's always good to plan ahead. All of OSU's practice are open to the public, and it you're a fan of the Beavers, or college football in general, I highly recommend you check out a practice. It's a rare opportunity to see college football from the inside.
