The No. 11 Oregon State Beavers will start junior Cody Vaz at quarterback on Saturday when they play host to the Arizona State Sun Devils, according to SB Nation's own Beavers blog Building The Dam.
Vaz started – and won – two games for the Beavers while starter Sean Mannion recovered from arthroscopic knee surgery, but Mannion returned to action and threw four interceptions last Saturday in Oregon State's 20-17 loss to Washington before being replaced by Vaz. Mannion's futility in his return led Beavers' head coach Mike Riley to peg Vaz for the start in Week 10 against the Sun Devils.
"Obviously, it's one of those things that's not easy,'' Riley told Yahoo! Sports. ''You look at the integrity of the competition and you try to make a decision for the team that's right this minute. We think Cody's playing a little bit better right now and deserves the start."
The 6'1 Vaz has completed 43-of-69 passes in the 2012 campaign, for 603 yards and four touchdowns. He has not thrown an interception in either of his two starts.
Kickoff for Saturday's game is slated for 7:30 p.m. PT and the game will be televised on ESPN 2.
