College Football Rankings, Week 10: Harris Poll Mirrors Coaches Poll

The Harris Poll, one of three components in the BCS rankings, fell in line with the USA Today Coaches Poll, ranking Oregon first and Auburn second. The Tigers, undefeated in the SEC, leapfrogged the Boise State Broncos, with Auburn holding a 28 point lead. The Oregon Ducks maintained their grasp on the top spot, gathering 92 first-place votes. Auburn had 10 votes for the top spot and Boise State had 12.

TCU and Alabama, like the AP and Coaches Poll, rounded out the top 5. Boise State holds a much more comfortable lead over TCU in the Harris Poll. The Broncos established a 106 point gap between themselves and the Horned Frogs in the poll.

Stanford finds itself in the top 10 of the Harris Poll, just like the USA Today rankings. The Cardinal checked in at No. 10, up three spots from last week. They’re joined in the rankings by Pac-10 mate Arizona. The Wildcats moved up two more spots this week to No. 13. Oregon, Stanford and Arizona are the only three Pac-10 teams in the poll.

The only major shakeup in the rankings this week came when both Missouri and Michigan State were upset yesterday. The Spartans fell 11 spots to No. 16 and the Tigers fell seven spots to No. 15.

The top-ranked Ducks return to Autzen Stadium this week to take on the Washington Huskies. The Huskies are coming off an embarrassing home loss against the Stanford Cardinal yesterday. Oregon, on the other hand, picked up a big road win over USC at the Coliseum.

The BCS rankings are out later tonight and Oregon has a shot at leapfrogging Auburn for the No. 1 spot this week.
