Here we go, one last time. What a crazy season, and it ends with the Hawks going off like Ryan Gosling at the end of Drive, when he just decides to obliterate everything. I actually heard someone blame all of the injured receivers the 9ers have right now as a reason Seattle won that game so handily.

Um, those guys were perfectly healthy at kickoff.

Alright, 149-72-1 on the season. Picks, don't fail me know.

St. Louis @ Seattle: The Seahawks have gone where few other teams have: I'd have to be drunk (like really really drunk) to pick against them. Pick'em till they lose status. PICK: HAWKS

Tampa Bay @ Atlanta: Here is the epitome of the Week 17 rub. Tampa Bay has lost their mojo, but the Falcons literally can't improve or damage their situation, no matter, what. I find it very unlikely Ryan, White and Turner see a full game. Sprinkle in a little division pride, and I think the Bucs pull it out. PICK: BUCS

NY Jets @ Buffalo: Someone's skid is coming to an inglorious end. I'm thinking it'll be the home team, who's not in a self delusional tailspin. Did Rex Ryan really dare impeach Tebow's integrity? I'm not sure where Rex Ryan ends up next year, but I'm thinking on the Jets' sideline is minimalistic possibility. PICK: BILLS

Baltimore @ Cincinnati: Guess which team has less (read: nothing) to play for? It's not the Bengals. PICK: RAVENS

Chicago @ Detroit: Chicago has a good chance, needing a victory and a Vikings loss to the Packers in Green Bay. But they have to take care of business, and trusting this team to get a job done is a dicey proposition. Ultimately, I think they're too talented to fail here, but I won't be surprised if the Lions kick them in the teeth. PICK: BEARS

Jacksonville @ Tennessee: These are a couple of bad teams, but I think Tennessee is somewhat less bad. PICK: TITANS

Houston @ Indianapolis: Indy is more likely to rest players, as Houston needs a win to sew up home field through the playoffs. I think they'll win handily. It's just a feeling I have, but I did just eat have a large pizza. PICK: TEXANS

Carolina @ New Orleans: Lots of pride on the line here, I guess. I like Carolina quite a bit, and think they are going to shape things up and really contend in the near future. But I don't trust their petulant quarterback to bring it, all professional-like this weekend. PICK: SAINTS

Philadelphia @ NY Giants: I think Philly is maybe the only team I'd take the Giants over. It's almost over Eagle fans, almost. PICK: GIANTS

Cleveland @ Pittsburgh: The wheels have come off and run away from the Steelers. Dissension, turnovers, no rushing game; a lot of things not normally associated with Pittsburgh. Cleveland beat them on the road in week 12, but without Big Ben. I think this is honestly a coin flip. PICK: STEELERS

Oakland @ San Diego: I had hopes for you once upon a week, Raiders. Not high hopes mind you, but hopes. Try and find some football players this offseason. PICK: CHARGERS

Arizona @ San Francisco: Did the Seahawks leave the 49ers a little jumpy, maybe scared of their own shadow a little bit? I doubt it. The Seahawks victory really needs to be framed in the context of just how good SF is: as in one of the best teams the NFL has seen in a few years. They are really good, and I wouldn't be super excited to see them again in the playoffs. Too much for Arizona. PICK: 49ERS

Green Bay @ Minnesota: This should be a pretty decent game. I think home field ultimately makes the difference, but AP should be really fun to watch. PICK: PACKERS

Miami @ New England: Despite their performance the last two weeks, the Patriots just don't drop these games at this point in the season. PICK: PATRIOTS

Kansas City @ Denver: Denver will know come game time if they have a chance at the top seed. If they do, this will be a blowout. But if they decide to take their foot off the pedal, Kansas City just miiiiiigggghhhtttt....PICK: BRONCOS

Dallas @ Washington: I know everyone laments the overwrought coverage of the Cowboys, but this is a simply enormous game. Winner in, loser out. RGIII is still in fine form, but Romo has quietly been outside of his mind recently. I think the Cowboys have just enough in the chops department to get this one done. PICK: COWBOYS

10-6 last week. 137-63-1 on the year.

San Francisco @ Seattle: It's been a long time since a week 16 Seahawks game had me this geeked. It's literally the giant black hole in the middle of the universe that is my holiday schedule. The two holiday parties, dinner dining plans, even the Sunday morning bowling, all serve to distract me from the bone-rattlin-battle-in-Seattle Sunday night. Christmas? I'll get to that later. New Year's plans? Bah, that'll will largely depend on the mood I'm in after the game, because whatever the outcome, I am planning on being deeply affected for several weeks.

So then who to pick? These teams are ruh-diculously even. The Niners average a half point more a game, 12 more yards gained, 9 less yards allowed, and have given up one less point on the year. Both teams identify themselves by their physical defense, which usually acts like an octopus crossed with Clubber Lang. Both execute tight, ball control offenses. Both teams will punch your teeth in, and the two head coaches just might.

Ultimately, when all things are considered equal, home field can be a huge advantage. So that's it then. PICK: SEATTLE SEAHAWKS AND THE 12TH MAN

New Orleans @ Dallas: Not many teams have gone through the drama the Saints have this year, and it shows. That's not an excuse, because even if Goodell ends up coming out of this with the most egg on his face, its safe to say some unsavory things were taking place in the Saints locker room. Either way, the result on the field has been a roller coaster of emotion. They start 0-4, win 5 of the next 6, drop three in a row, then belt-whip Tampa Bay last week. It all comes down to how you defend their aerial attack.

This team averages under 100 yards rushing a game, but really gets after it through the air. Coupled with the fact that they have scored over 30 in every win but one (and that one had 28) and it becomes clear - they ain't scoring on the ground. Enter Dallas, at home, coming off three straight wins, but with a questionable Morris Claiborne. Still, gotta go with the home team with something to play for. PICK: COWBOYS

Tennessee @ Green Bay: [insert entertaining analysis here] PICK: PACKERS

Indianapolis @ Kansas City: KC is a bad matchup for Indy. They defend the pass very well, to the tune of 215.6 yards a game, good for 7th in the league. They also run the fudge out of the ball. They can't pass, and they definitely can't stop the run. But they have a great crowd, and hopefully, pride. PICK: CHIEFS

Buffalo @ Miami: The last team the Hawks pantsed won the next time out. Can Buffalo duplicate? I'm gonna say no. PICK: DOLPHINS

San Diego @ NY Jets: I don't know what to make of San Diego, but they shouldn't show up next week if they get Greg-McElroyed this weekend. PICK: CHARGERS

Washington @ Philadelphia: Washington is hot. Philadelphia is about as exciting as a wet cigarette. PICK: REDSKINS

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh: So its quite clear the Big Ben and Todd Haley don't have what you would call chemistry. And their slide is up to 4 out of the last 5. Even with the home-field bump, the Bengals should have enough to deliver the finishing blow to the Steelers. PICK: BENGALS

St. Louis @ Tampa Bay: Where have you gone, Tampa Bay? Expect El Jeffe Fisher to keep the pressure on. PICK: RAMS.

Oakland @ Carolina: Carolina is a bit snakebitten, but again (and again, and again) the Panthers are not a bad team. Oakland is. PICK: PANTHERS

New England @ Jacksonville: Patriots primed for a big time eff-you performance coming off the heartbreak to the Niners. Poor Jacksonville. PICK: PATRIOTS

Minnesota @ Houston: Houston stands in the way of Adrian Peterson's assault on reason. I've heard the jokes about the cheetah-tendons, but it's borderline madness what he's doing. This should be a fun game. Ultimately, Houston will win because they will actually try to win. Minny should (and probably will) just feed AP as much as they can. Third and ten? Let's run the dive again....PICK: TEXANS

Cleveland @ Denver: Bah, Denver's a gimme. PICK: BRONCOS

Chicago @ Arizona: I appreciate Chicago's defense for their skill, but lament their fragility. I also lament the existence of Jay Cutler, franchise quarterback. Arizona is going to lay a licking on the Bear's QB, but probably fail utterly in every other aspect of the game. PICK: BEARS

NY Giants @ Baltimore: Who knows who's going to show up for this game. The Giants are maddingly inconsistent, and the Ravens are the a below average team that was somehow 9-2 at one point. Coin flip....PICK: GIANTS

Cincinnati @ Philadelphia:

The following is a candidate for least likely sentence of the year:

"What a play by quarterback Nick Foles, throwing a game winning touchdown pass to end the Eagles' 8-game losing streak."

Whoa, er, more like Woe. And it could have been worse. Philly's four wins are by a total of 6 points. That's ultimately a meaningless statistic, but it illustrates just how far from expectations this team has fallen. They've blown out no one. They've outclassed no one. They are officially the anti-Seahawks.

The Eagles were built for this season, in a large part, through free agency (also known as players other teams didn't want to pay anymore), and they have assembled talent based upon reputation and not by their fit to a scheme (Nnamdi, I'm looking at you). That problem has been exacerbated by slow developing investments through the draft, which haven't worked out either by way of the depth chart, injury or ineffectiveness.

Now, huzzah for Bryce Brown, and Foles did get you back in the win column. Vinny Curry hasn't done a whole lot yet (though with Jason Babin now gone he'll get his chance) and while many Seahawks fans lamented missing on Mychal Kendricks and instead got Bobby Wagner, the former has played at an unnatural spot - strongside linebacker - for much of the year and has racked up way too many missed tackles as the year has worn on. He's back at the weakside now, but it's probably safe to say that expectations for Kendricks, in general, were a little higher prior to the season. Finally, though he's now starting and has a total of four sacks to his name, with the underwhelming season the Eagles have had, I haven't heard the name Fletcher Cox all year either. The Eagles appear to be finally favoring a draft-oriented youth movement on their roster, but it's too little too late.

It's possible I'm biased and jaded, and I look fondly upon the results of the much-maligned process my Seahawks have employed to build the roster into what it is, but I take significant pride in the fact that it's the antithesis of what the much ballyhooed "dream team" did before falling squarely on their ass. They may switch things up now with Foles, Cox, and company, but they aren't there quite yet.

So maybe I'm being unfair to the Eagles, but Cincinnati's my choice. PICK: BENGALS

There are four regular season weeks of football left. Which is an unreal fact of life.

Denver @ Oakland: The inevitable question this time of year is who lets off the pedal? Denver has a playoff spot all wrapped up, but is locked in a battle for seeding, so I expect them to continue throwing the ball and making key adjustments going forward. Oakland just doesn't have the class to compete. PICK: BRONCOS

Arizona @ Seattle: No Browner? Against the Cards, hopefully no problem. Since Week 1's loss, Russell Wilson has emerged, the Cards have withered like a dead vine in the desert sun, and the Cardinals QB situation has wasted one of footballs greatest weapons, Mr. Larry Fitzgerald.

Sunny upside to the Adderall debacle? Seattle has been very lucky with the health of their dynamic secondary, and the need for depth hasn't really become an issue yet. Basically, if Walter Thurmond, Jeremy Lane, and Byron Maxwell suck, it hasn't hurt us, but we still don't know what we have. Well, we're going to find out. Good week to take on this project. PICK: SEAHAWKS

St. Louis @ Buffalo: This is an interesting game for Seattle fans, for obvious reasons. As long as the Ram defense can contain the Bills rushing attack, they should be able to roll their momentum into a win. PICK: RAMS

Dallas @ Cincinnati: The Bengals are on a quite a roll, winning four straight games. They are a well balanced team. Dallas fans meanwhile, have been on a roller coaster of emotion this season. Ultimately, Dallas is just a mediocre football team, who loses to good teams and beats bad teams. Cincinnati, right now, is a good team. PICK: BENGALS

Kansas City @ Cleveland: After an incredibly emotional win last week (in which the NFL had no business whatsoever letting take place as scheduled), Kansas City is likely in for a tough time. Tragedies have emotional tolls. Going on the road to a surprisingly frisky Browns team is not a recipe for success. I sincerely wish anyone touched by the events of last week peace and grace, and hope we all can remember that there are bigger things than wins, losses and playoffs. PICK: BROWNS

Tennessee @ Indianapolis: 8-4? The Colts are winning games with blood, sweat and guts these days. The Titans on the other hand are not. Winning games that is. PICK: COLTS

Chicago @ Minnesota: Just two weeks ago, the Bears disposed of the Vikings pretty handily. They'll probably win again, but it'll be interesting to see the effect playing the Seahawks has on a team. Lost in the miracle that is Russell Wilson was the fact that Seattle punished the Bears physically, especially the defense. If Christian Ponder were one of probably 25 other quarterbacks, I'd like Minny here. PICK: BEARS

Philadelphia @ Tampa Bay: I'm wondering if the Eagles or the Phillies will win the next game. With TB, Cincy, the Redskins and the Giants on the schedule, I think the safer bet is the Phillies. PICK: BUCS

Baltimore @ Washington: Baltimore feels a little bit like a house of cards ready to fall. Washington might run for like a zillion yards against them this week. Are they the worst 9-3 team ever? PICK: REDSKINS

Atlanta @ Carolina: Falcons need to avoid coasting into the playoffs. Keep it pinned to the floor Atlanta. PICK: FALCONS

NY Jets @ Jacksonville: Officially Worst Game Ever of the Week. The Jets are probably better than I think, but my opinion is eroded by my hate for Rex Ryan's teeth. And words. And football team. PICK: sigh, JETS

San Diego @ Pittsburgh: Big Ben supposedly "heading in the right direction", and he obviously vastly improves the Steelers chances of winning. Even without him, San Diego is so flaccid (yup!), I can't pick them. PICK: STEELERS

Miami @ San Francisco: Miami's only hope is to try and ... they don't have any hope. PICK: 49ers

New Orleans @ NY Giants: The Giants have been so inconsistent this year, except on defense, where they've been fairly underwhelming. They probably win this game, since it's at home, but only because the Saint's have cooled significantly. PICK: GIANTS

Detroit @ Green Bay: While I'd love to see a Detroit win in this one, it's not going to happen. PICK: PACKERS

Houston @ New England: see Dinger, Hum. I gotta go with New England, just because they don't ever lose big games late in the regular season. However, this is as close to a pick'em I could imagine. PICK: PATRIOTS

Bob Levey

New Orleans @ Atlanta: Revenge of the Birds! Atlanta gets a chance to rectify their only loss on the season, a 4 point squeaker at New Orleans in Week 10. Ultimately, this game comes down to the Saints' defense. It's putrid bad. It's almost coached-by-Nick-Holt bad. I don't think they can come up with a game plan that they could possibly execute on the road to stop Atlanta. PICK: FALCONS.

Seattle @ Chicago: [BEWARE! UNREASONABLE AMOUNTS OF OPTIMISM FOLLOW] It's unclear if the Sherman-Browner Adderall cartel will be available for the game Sunday, but here's to hoping it doesn't matter. Because Chicago's offensive line has more sweaty, uniformed men go through it than a Turkish prison. Because CHRIS FREAKING SPENCER is a "key" member of that group. Because getting demoted out of the starting lineup is so embarrassing you have to quit football forever (I know, I know, he tried to come back). I am seriously starting to understand why Jay Cutler makes that face. Considering the litany of injuries the Bears are now facing, it's definitely the right week to go to Chicago. PICK: SEAHAWKS

Jacksonville @ Buffalo: Wow, hard to write this one after talking about the Hawks. Um, The Jags did manage to get a win last week against the Titans, which is cool. Again they utilized the Cecil Shorts Bomb to devastating effect. But I think Buffalo will simply run them into the ground in this one. PICK: BUFFALO

San Francisco @ St. Louis: Even though the Rams nearly accomplished the unthinkable a few weeks back, I've awarded the 49ers pick 'em till they lose status. Ergo... PICK: 49ers.

New England @ Miami: Sorry Miami, no love for you right now. I know everyone joked about the Buffalo Wild Wings - Sprinkler connection, but consider this: What happens when you fire a 5'10", 200 pound rocket on wet grass that should be dry? It fails to avoid brushing against the quarterback's head and a game changing interception is taken off the board. Kick rocks Dolphins. PICK: PATRIOTS

Arizona @ NY Jets: Ugh, whatever. PICK: JETS, why not

Indianapolis @ Detroit: The Colts are a weird team. Being 7-4 is good, but they have lost games by 20, 26 and 35 points. Huh? All of those losses were on the road as well. Let's call it a gut feeling, but I like Detroit in this one. PICK: LIONS

Minnesota @ Green Bay: Losers of 4 out of the 6, Minny is fading from relevancy. While they won't be mathematically eliminated, a loss to the Packers is likely a nail in the coffin of their playoff hopes. And lose they will. PICK: VIKINGS

Houston @ Tennessee: JJ Watt is the MVP of the league, and I don't think it's even that close. He's an unstoppable killing machine. PICK: TEXANS

Carolina @ Kansas City: I remain steadfastly in favor of the fact that the Panthers are not this bad. I don't think they're good, but I'm telling you, they'll beat KC. PICK: PANTHERS

Tampa Bay @ Denver: Ouch Bucs. Not a good week to lose ALL the corners off of the 32nd ranked pass defense (by yards allowed). Still, Tampa Bay has some crazy mojo working these days. I think they make it close, but ultimately fall. I wouldn't bet against them with, like, real money or anything. PICK: BRONCOS

Cleveland @ Oakland: Look, Cleveland is going to win this game. I know, I know, they're terrible, but keep in mind they are .500 over their last six, and Oakland, despite some explosive offensive performances, have lost whatever they had when they topped Pittsburgh in week 3. PICK: BROWNS

Pittsburgh @ Baltimore: So Big Ben is 50-50 to play this Sunday, so basically, Pittsburgh has a 50-50 chance to be competitive. Because Charlie Batch is not going into Baltimore and beating the Ravens. I believe this is what they call a "tough road to hoe" for Pitt. PICK: RAVENS

Philadelphia @ Dallas: Heard this on the radio this week: The Phillies have won a game more recently than the Eagles. Holy tailspin Batman. What a heap of crap. I have no love for the Cowboys, but picking Philly right now is dumber than turning the camera off when Jack Rebney is in the room. PICK: COWBOYS

NY Giants @ Washington: The Giants are tough to predict. After a 4 week stretch where they looked meh at best, they managed to cause a kerfluffle when they lambasted Green Bay last week. Washington is coming off a good win in Dallas. Eli is going to have to find a way to get this one done, as Washington can really defend the run. I think he does. PICK: GIANTS

Week 12: 10-4

Season: 96-47 (and 1. I refuse to call a tie a loss)

Texans @ Lions: Where in the Jiminy-Thanksgiving did the Texans' defense go last week? I'm thinking that was just a little hiccup, and they should get back on track shortly. But still, Jacksonville (CHAD. HENNE.) did some major damage in that game. Hmm, Detroit is better than the Jaguars, and at home.......It just doesn't feel right. PICK: TEXANS

Redskins @ Cowboys: I haven't had much interest in this game since Nate Newton retired, and I could no longer hold out hope that in the middle of the game the camera would pan over and catch the nimble 400-pounder stealthily spiriting away with that weird ass six legged John Madden turkey. I mean you know he thought about it, right? This is the guy who got arrested twice in the span of weeks with a total of 388 POUNDS of marijuana in his collective trunks. I mean, the criminal enterprise was there, but the execution was just a bit off. Anyway, PICK: COWBOYS

Patriot @ Jets: The Jets head home coming off a win, and now face a New England team who barely beat them a month ago. They should have all the confidence in the world, but somehow I think a lack of confidence just isn't this team's problem, and could actually work against them. New England will have to get creative to overcome the loss of Gronkowski, but that's what they do best. New England doesn't lose these types of games in the second half of the season. PICK: PATRIOTS

Seahawks @ Dolphins: I think most have us have been eyeing this game for weeks: The Dolphins are a team the Hawks need to beat to stay in the playoff race, and they are just "meh" enough that the Hawks should take care of business, but alas, it's an early east coast game, historically kryptonic for the good guys. Ultimately, our defense should own the Miami offense, which has been all sorts of Soviet satellite-like lately (in steady decay (BOOM! Physics jokes!)). It will come down to the offense taking care of the ball, and putting a stopper on the Dolphin's special team hijinxs. If they do, we'll get this thing done. PICK: HAWKS

Vikings @ Bears: Have you heard the one about a Bear who took a dump on Monday Night Football? Chicago is just not the same without their sour-puss quarterback, which surprises me. it really shouldn't take much talent to allow yourself to get pounded to the ground all game long. Either way, I like the Vikings, who come out of the bye looking to ground and pound. PICK: VIKINGS

Raiders @ Bengals: Cincinnati has looked pretty good now in their last 4 games. Getting Oakland at home with a chance to get over .500 should be just what the doctor ordered. PICK. BENGALS

Steelers @ Browns: Yikes. Steelers have dominated this match up for over a decade, but the Batchman leaves something to be desired, and it's on the road. Pittsburgh should be able to run the ball just enough, but something about this game smells funny. PICK: STEELERS

Bills @ Colts: Can't see Indianapolis losing this one at home. PICK: COLTS

Broncos @ Chiefs: This seems like the biggest road-team-wins gimmie of the year. Interesting to see what the Broncos do without McGahee. They've run just enough to set up the pass, but were still getting over 105 years/game on the ground. Ronnie Hillman sounds more like a guidance counselor than an NFL running back, but KC is a good place to get started. PICK: BRONCOS

Falcons @ Buccaneers: As good as Tampa has been the last several weeks, I think Matt Ryan is going to go all Abraham Lincoln to the Bucs' legions of vampires. PICK: FALCONS

Titans @ Jaguars: I've decided I hate both of these teams, like, a TON. You're both too crappy to care about, but here I have to pick one of you to "win". I feel like we all lose. Enjoy victory, half of the wonder-crap twins. PICK: JAGUARS

Ravens @ Chargers: Ravens just keep winning, despite a paper-mache defense. I think San Diego gets this game, even though they suck. This is a trap game for the Ravens. Everyone has been talking about the two Pittsburgh games, but between those they have to run out for a "quick" trip to the West Coast to play a San Diego team that still has a little talent lying around. Wrong game at wrong time for Baltimore. PICK: CHARGERS

49ers @ Saints: I hate hate hate to say it, but the 49ers have earned pick 'em till they lose status. PICK: 49ERS.

Rams @ Cardinals: Of course Steven Jackson's health will play a huge role, but the Cardinals are a mess. The Rams are maddeningly inconsistent, but have a good chance to lay it on Arizona. PICK: RAMS

Packers @ Giants: How was this not put on Thursday night? Giants are on unsteady legs, and the Packers are Reaganing, but this is still a marquee matchup. I think this might be a very good football game, but I expect the Packers to get one on the road. PICK: PACKERS

Panthers @ Eagles: PICK: PANTHERS /drops mic

How do I record a tie? No sport should ever be able to end in a tie, that's bogus. Keep playing, or pick an arbitrary aspect of the game and settle that way, like soccer does (sometimes). NO MORE TIES! NO MORE TIES! NO MORE TIES!!

On to the Week 11 picks:

Miami @ Buffalo -These two teams each do one thing well: Buffalo can run it, Miami can stop the run. Everything else is total crap. So expect this to be a ever so slightly less than thrilling tilt. Despite coming off a dismantling at the hands of the Titans, I think Miami has enough to pull this out. Buffalo just isn't very good. And not that they look good on paper, but somehow they are less than the sum of their parts. PICK: DOLPHINS

Arizona @ Atlanta - The Falcons have lost pick-them-till-they-lose status, because they, you know, lost. But I'm not sure that was their worst game of the year. And Arizona's once vaunted defense has started to show cracks. Either way, on the road against Atlanta is not the place to snap a 5 game losing streak. PICK: FALCONS

Cleveland @ Dallas - Since their bye, the Cowboys are 2-5, but I question how bad they've really been. All three losses were to very good teams in Baltimore, New York and Atlanta, and it was by a combined 13 points. They took care of business against Carolina and Philadelphia. I think it's becoming pretty clear they squarely in the middle of the pack in the NFL, and they consistently play like it. So since a home game against the Browns is a game they should win, they probably will. PICK: COWBOYS

Green Bay @ Detroit - The thought that Green Bay is hurt by the bye week is really such a trap. How is it byes help bad teams and hurt good teams? That seem inconsistent to me. I get that teams can acquire (or lose) momentum, but a huge component to momentum in the NFL is talent. The Packers have plenty of that. PICK: PACKERS

Cincinnati @ Kansas City - Oh Kansas City, I feel for you guys. Damn, six in a row? You're better than this. I think you get it done this week. PICK: CHIEFS

Philadelphia @ Washington - I'm torn on this one. My gut is screaming Redskins. I mean, it's Nick Foles. But I also think Philly is sort of due for a dead cat bounce. Coupled with Washington's impotent pass rush, Foles just might get all day to wing it around. PICK: THE DEAD CAT

Tampa Bay @ Carolina - A rematch of week 1, and two teams whose results have diverged somewhat radically from expectations. Tampa has really played some good football the last 5 weeks, while Carolina has kind of been better than their record, but ultimately disappointing. Tampa can be beat by teams that can throw the ball, but I'm not so sure Cam Newton's pissy toddler act won't preclude him from succeeding, even when the opportunity is handed to him. I think the Bucs keep rolling, but in a close game. PICK: BUCS

Jacksonville @ Houston - These two teams are not in the same class. And overpaying for Tim Tebow this offseason won't help the Jags either. PICK: TEXANS

NY Jets @ St. Louis - So far, the Jets have yet to score an offensive touchdown against the NFC West, and have been outscored by a total of 52-7. Normally that type of futility would elicit sympathy from me, but HA REX RYAN!!! HA HA HA! PICK: RAM RULES

New Orleans @ Oakland - Sometimes, you just gotta do what feels right. PICK: SAINTS

San Diego @ Denver - The Broncos are juggernauting, like all damn day. San DiAHgo just doesn't have the game these days. PICK: BRONCOS.

Indianapolis @ New England - This will be a tough one for the Colts, no matter who their quarterback is. The Patriots are really tough in nearly every facet of the game. That being said, they seem to play down to the level of their opponent at times, and an aggressive defense can give them fits. Still, they've lost three games by a total of 4 points. Good teams take care of business. PICK: PATTYS

Baltimore @ Pittsburgh - This is why picking games on a Thursday is hard: what's up with Big Ben? If he doesn't play, I don't think the Steelers have much of a chance. Let's assume Byron Leftwich plays, and let's also assume he still has a delivery longer than a John Bonham drum solo. PICK: RAVENS

Chicago @ San Francisco - Again, Thursday morning. Smith looks like a go, Cutler a no-go. That gives the edge to the Niners. PICK: 49ERS

I won more games last week (12) than minutes I spent writing the column (10). HA! Vic-TORE-EEEEEEEE!!!!!

Indianapolis @ Jacksonville: The once-moribund Colts are now 5-3 and talking playoffs. Think anyone would be interested in a possible, oh I don't know, Denver-Indy game? Think execs at CBS/FOX/whoever have slept since that possibility occurred to them? Well if the Colts want to get there, this is type of game they must win. PICK: COLTS

Jets @ Seattle: Seahawks stay at home to face a team that is sort of a lesser Vikings in a lot of ways. I think the plan was that Ponder could be Sanchez-lite, but really, Jets fans have to be hoping that the Sanchize finds a way to be Ponderish. And they want to run, run, and run, but Shonn Greene is as much AP as I'm Cee-Lo Green. I think Seattle's physicality and precision punch the Jets in the teeth. PICK: SEATTLE

NY Giants @ Cincinnati: Since trouncing the 49ers, the Giants have had three games decided by less than 5 points. But they're still 6-3 with no bad losses. Cincinasty just doesn't have that "dangerous underdog" vibe. This is not shaping up like a week for the upset. PICK: GIANTS

Tennessee @ Miami: Miami is .500, which on one level is something of a positive, as they were fairly, I don't know, what does a wet tissue ripping sound like? phhffffftttt....? But dig a little deeper. They took a week 1 trouncing, with a rookie QB at the hands of the almighty Texans. Since then, they've dropped three more, all by three points, twice in overtime. Teams that can throw it will beat them (433 yards!), but if you rely on the run, it's going to be a battle. I'm watching this game, as I think Miami is going to be a bit of a threshold game for the Hawks. Tennessee probably can't capitalize. PICK: DOLPHINS

Detroit @ Minnesota: The Battle of the Last Two Teams to Face the Seahawks. Gotta be the Detroit right? PICK: LIONS

Buffalo @ New England: Pattys hung 52 on Buffalo, in Buffalo (or Toronto? Do they still get to play games actually IN Buffalo anymore?) and now get to try again. New England has had a bye week to get all healed up, so I don't expect much drama in this one. PICK: PATRIOTS

Atlanta @ New Orleans: Bet the over. PICK: FALCONS

San Diego @ Tampa Bay: I haven't done the math, but I'm willing to bet I have the worst pick record on TB's games. But they have rolled some people up as of late, and Doug Martin appears to be hard to get a hand on these days, like literally. The Chargers showed a bit of life last week, but have they become gun shy? The came out confident and bullied the Chiefs around, but is that because they know they can? San Diego needs an identity. They've probably needed one since Lights Out left. PICK: BUCS

Denver @ Carolina: I really think Carolina is going to put together a couple of good wins very soon. I've said it often, they are better than their record. I'm picking the Broncos because they are truly, very very good, but I can't say I'll be surprised when the Panthers give them all they can handle. PICK: BRONCOS

Oakland @ Baltimore: The Ravens are sort of the anti-Panthers, where I think they're worse than their record. But that's where veteran leadership makes its money. I think they probably have enough to get past Oakland at home however. Tough games lie ahead though. PICK: RAVENS

Dallas @ Philadelphia: Somebody's season is over after this one right, at 3-6? Everything about the matchup on paper screams Philly wins, except they simply cannot win a damn game these days. Their last win was in September. I think Dallas gets to fight on, as long as their defense takes advantage of the Eagles are giving away these days, namely turnovers and scoring opportunities. PICK: COWBOYS

St. Louis @ San Francisco: This one won't be easy for the Rams. PICK: 49ERS

Houston @ Chicago: Chicago's defense is a bad mamma-jamma, no doubt. But, the Texans are a bit of a reckoning for this team. They will take care of the ball, and the Bears offense is not up to the task of taking on Houston's D. PICK: TEXANS

Kansas City @ Pittsburgh: For the first time in a while, the Steelers seem a little susceptible to playing down to the level of their opponents, something we haven't seen from them in a while. They're (mostly) winning, but the games are close, and often could go either way. Fortunately for them, KC's level is too low for Pitt to get to. PICK: STEELERS

Ok, welcome to the light version of the weekly picks. Last week 9-5, now 67-37 on the year.

Kansas City @ San Diego: Kansas City just isn't very good at football this year, although there are similarities to the Cleveland team that just squeaked by the Chargers last week. They run the ball well, and in theory should play better defense, but that won't be enough. PICK: San Diego

MInnesota @ Seattle: Minnesota comes to town with a decent defense and a stout run game. Or in other words, they are the exact type of team Seattle needs to get this thing going in the right direction the second half of the season. The wildcard? Percy Harvin, who might be a matchup problem for the Hawks style of defense. Limit his impact, and Seattle should come out ahead. PICK: Seahawks

Denver @ Cincinnati: Denver is rolling. Bengals get this game at home, coming off the bye, but I think their losing streak goes to four. PICK: Broncos

Baltimore @ Cleveland: Baltimore's offense should come unhinged against the Brown's defense, who can't really stem the run or pass. PICK: Ravens

Arizona @ Green Bay: Remember how this was the light version of weekly picks? PICK: Packers

Chicago @ Tennessee: PICK: Chicago (although that magical train ride is coming to an end soon, methinks).

Miami @ Indianapolis: Indy likes to throw the ball, Miami can't stop the pass. MIami likes to run the ball, Indy can't stop the run. Interesting matchup. I think homefield advantage tips the scales in the Colts' favor. If Miami gets takeaways though, and controls the clock, they will get this one on the road. PICK: Colts

Carolina @ Washington: The Redskins represent a bit of an oasis for the Panthers, who have had to play Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, Atlanta and the Giants over the last five games. They're better than 1-6. PICK: Panthers

Detroit @ Jacksonville: Jacksonville is bad, and maybe has the worst homefield advantage in sports, as they've scored 20 points TOTAL in three home games this year. PICK: Lions

Buffalo @ Houston: Bye bye Buffalo. PICK: Texans

Tampa Bay @ Oakland: Call me crazy, but I'm starting to see Oakland as a dangerous team, especially if you can't defend the pass. And Tampa can't. PICK: Raiders

Pittsburgh @ Giants: This is the kind of game the Giants typically get up for. Given a city ready to rally, I think Pittsburgh is really going to match NY's emotion for this game, which is a tall order. Too tall. PICK: Giants

Dallas @ Atlanta: Falcons have earned pick-them-till-they-lose status. PICK: Falcons

Philadelphia @ New Orleans: Philly is a good team, that should put up a ton of points against the most porous defense I've ever seen. But, they are a mess right now. I mean, when you're considering sitting your $100 million quarterback for Nick Foles (that's right, NICK FOLES!) you've got problems. PICK: Saints.

Week 8 is upon us and I'm fired up. I managed to pick 11 out of 13 correct last week, which I'm told is purdy good. Aaaaaannnnnddddd I'm out of things to say in the introduction.

Week 8 picks:

Tampa Bay @ Minnesota: The Vikings have become a tough home team, likely too tough for the Bucs. I expect Ponder to work some of his "who is this guy" magic. PICK: VIKINGS

Seattle @ Detroit: Interesting road game for the Seahawks to get back on track. Lions are middle of the pack against the run, but stop the pass fairly well. That bodes well for Seattle. They also don't take the ball away, like, ever. I expect Pete Carroll to recognize that, and capitalize on it by opening up the playbook quite a bit. Shootout? That'd be another first for Russell Wilson, and I'm looking forward to that possibility. PICK: SEAHAWKS!

Carolina @ Chicago: Carolina is in serious danger of falling to 1-6. Problem is, they aren't THAT bad. They're not good by any means, but should be able to manage a record more in line with their mediocre stats. I suppose an upswing could be coming, but not this week. PICK: DA BEARS

San Diego @ Cleveland: San Diego continues to have a balanced yet impotent offensive attack, which sound gross, and they're struggling to stop the pass. As losers of three of their last four, they are likely looking forward to three games against Cleveland, KC and Tampa before a tilt against the Broncos. Coming off a bye, it's now or never for them, and they have a real chance to do some damage. Cleveland simply cannot run the ball. As a team built to pound the rock, that's a problem. But, they've been tougher at home. Unfortunately for Browns fans, I think San Diego seizes the opportunity, at least for now. PICK: CHARGERS

New England @ St. Louis: The Pats have become squeakers, playing four games settled by three points or less. They are also 1-3 in those games, which is very un-Brady like. If the Rams can keep it close, they have a chance to steal one. It'll take a big game from Sam Bradford, who's been surprisingly decent since losing Amendola. Screw it, why not...PICK: RAMS

Miami @ NY Jets: Bad matchup for Jets, as Miami will run and dare you to throw it on them. Round one went to the Jets, but I think Miami has improved more this season then Rex Ryan's squad. PICK: DOLPHINS

Atlanta @ Philadelphia: This looks to be a bonanza of football delights. Two talented teams coming off byes, who should hopefully be able to take their best shots at one another. The key to this game will be Atlanta finding a way to shut down the Eagles ground efforts. I think this is a coin flip, so I'll go with the undefeated team. PICK: FALCONS

Washington @ Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh is going to throw for about 400 yards this game. They might not even suit a running back up. PICK: STEELERS

Jacksonville @ Green Bay: Analysis would be insulting to your intelligence. PICK: PACKERS

Indianapolis @ Tennessee: Andrew Luck's first road win? It's all that's standing between him and being the greatest quarterback of all time. PICK: COLTS

Oakland @ Kansas City: Oakland is ridiculously inconsistent, making them eternally hard to predict. Beat Pittsburgh? Sure! Lost by more than three touchdowns to Miami? You betcha. KC on the other hand gets this game off the bye, and is at home, but they are a mess. Brady Quinn got tore up by the Bucs, who dared him to beat them. He didn't get sacked, only got hit twice, and still was utterly ineffective. PICK: RAIDERS

NY Giants @ Dallas: Good barometer game for the Giants. They lost to Dallas in week one, and they must answer the question: Are they the team that manhandled San Francisco or needed lightning in a bottle to beat Washington? I think Dallas gets up for this one. PICK: COWBOYS

New Orleans @ Denver: The Saints are coming off two straight wins, but don't have it together enough yet to handle Denver on the road. Can't run, can't stop anything. PICK: BRONCOS

San Francisco @ Arizona: NFC WEST SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWDOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!!! PICK: 49ers
