The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series arrived at Pocono Raceway on Sunday for the Pennsylvania 400. The events of the day turned tragically surreal by the time the race was over.
Thunderstorms resulted in the race being cut short on lap 106 out of 160. When the race was called, Jeff Gordon was in the lead and was awarded a much-needed win. Kasey Kahne came in second to help further secure his spot in the chase for the Sprint Cup.
Unfortunately, the race was marred by a tragic event in the parking lot after the race ended. A lightning strike resulted in several fans being sent to the hospital. One fan died as a result of the lightning strike. Please visit this StoryStream on SB Nation's NASCAR hub to read more about the tragedy.
