2012 Olympics: Team USA Leads Medal Count After Day Seven

Team USA holds a slight lead in the overall medal count following Friday's events in London. China had held the lead earlier in the week, but strong showings in swimming and gymnastics have propelled the US to the top. They now sit atop the leaderboard with 43 total medals. 21 of them are gold, which is the highest of any country. The United States has also secured 12 silvers and 10 bronze.

China sits in second place with 42 medals. They've won 20 gold, 13 silver and nine bronze. Russia has moved into third place with 23 medals, 12 of which are silver. Great Britain is in fourth with 22 medals, and Japan is in fifth with 21.

Saturday will mark the eighth day of competition in London.
