The U.S. women's national soccer team defeated the New Zealand national team Friday by the score of 2-0 at the 2012 Olympic games in London.
32-year-old striker Abby Wambach slid into a pass in the 27th minute that gave her her fourth goal of these Olympic games and put the USWMT up 1-0, and the two-time defending Olympic champions held New Zealand scoreless, and Seattle Sounders forward Sydney Leroux scored the clinching goal in the 87th minute to put the Americans up 2-0 and put Kiwis away for good.
The USWNT move on to the semi-finals of the Olympic tournament, and will play the winner of the Britain-Canada match in Manchester on Monday. This marks the fifth time in five tries the American women have advanced to the semi's of the Olympic tournament
