The Oregon Ducks have had their share of Heisman Trophy hopefuls in recent years and 2012 is no different. Sophomore De'Anthony Thomas enters the 2012 season as one of the preseason betting favorites to win the award.
After showing plenty of big-play ability in 2011, Thomas enters the 2012 season with 20-1 odds to win the award. Thomas burst on the scene as a freshman last season, racking up 1,200 yards from scrimmage and scoring 18 total touchdowns. He was used as both a receiver and a running back last season, catching 46 passes while carrying the ball 55 times.
With the departure of LaMichael James and other offensive weapons, Thomas figures to see an even bigger role in 2012. Lofty projections of nearly 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns are part of the reason he is considered one of the top Heisman Trophy contenders.
SB Nation's Dan Rubenstein runs down all of the top 2012 Heisman Trophy contenders, including Thomas, in this video.
