With the 2012 NCAA football season fast approaching, SB Nation reached out to its college blogs to vote on the top players in the nation and name the 2012 SB Nation Preseason All-American Team. It's a fun way of building a great fake team, and they continued today by naming the top running backs and linebackers in the country, with the offensive and defensive linemen being named yesterday.
Oregon's dynamic running back duo of Kenjon Barner and De'Anthony Thomas were named as honorable mentions for the team, with Montee Ball of Wisconson and Marcus Lattimore of South Carolina walking away with top honors.
Barner, heading into his senior year as the lead tailback, nearly broke the 1,000 yard mark last season while splitting time with Thomas. Barner averaged 102.7 total yards from scrimmage in 2011, rushing for 939 yards on 152 attempts and 11 touchdowns.
Thomas, meanwhile, is coming off an electrifying freshman season after being named the Pac-12 co-offensive freshman of the year for 2011. Proving to be a multi-faceted offensive thread, Thomas got into the end zone a grand total of 18 times on the season while averaging 159.6 all-purpose yards per game.
