Mariners Vs. Rays Final Score: Seattle Drops Opener, 4-1

The Seattle Mariners were hoping to pick up their third straight win on Monday night as they returned to Safeco Field to host the Tampa Bay Rays. Things didn't quite work out that way, as they were held to five hits in a 4-1 loss.

The Rays plated all four of their runs in the top of the third inning. Desmond Jennings singled in Sam Fuld, B.J. Upton hit a two-run homer and Ben Zobrist doubled in Matt Joyce.

The Mariners finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an Eric Thames single that drove in Trayvon Robinson.

Starter Blake Beavan took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits in six inning pitched. The Mariners will try to regroup on Tuesday and even up the series.
