New Mariner DJ Mitchell Off To Good Start with Tacoma

Trading Ichiro Suzuki was shocking to see as a Mariners fan, but seeing him traded for less-than-stellar prospects was not since Ichiro is no longer Ichiro! But D.J. Mitchell hasn't done much to disappoint over his first two starts with Tacoma.

Mitchell started for the second time last night and went 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, and 4 K. He's now allowed 1 ER over his first two starts (12 innings) for a 0.75 ERA. Tacoma beat Tuscon 3-2, with Mitchell picking up a no-decision.

Justin Smoak went 1-for-3 with a double and is hitting .219/.324/.313 in nine games for Tacoma. Alex Liddi went 2-for-3, his second straight multi-hit game, and is hitting .226/.308/.366 on the year.

Meanwhile, some guy named Taijuan Walker (who?) went 6 innings for Jackson and struck out 3 with 7 hits allowed, 1 walk and 3 ER in a 4-1 loss to Birmingham. It's not a great start for Walker but he did induce 9 groundouts compared to 3 flyouts and threw 99 pitches, 66 for strikes.

James Paxton starts for the Generals tonight.
