2012 Olympics, Saber Fencing Results: Mariel Zagunis Falls In Semifinals To South Korea's Kim Jiyeon

Mariel Zagunis, the 2-time gold medal winner in saber fencing for the United States of America, has lost in the semifinals to Kim Jiyeon of Korea.

Zagunis, the Beaverton, OR native eventually lost by the score of 15-13 to the fourth-seeded Jiyeon. At one point in the match, Zagunis had a 12-5 advantage, only to let it slip away along with her chances for a third gold medal.

This is the first time since 2007 that Zagunis has not fenced for the gold in the Olympics or the world championships. The top-seeded Zagunis will now fence for the bronze medal instead. Zagunis had not problems until this semifinal match, rolling her opponents in her first three matches with 15-7, 15-9, and 15-7 victories.
