Hope Solo is the backbone of Team USA Soccer. A native of Richland, Washington and current member of the Seattle Sounders, all eyes were on the talented goalie as the US took on Colombia on Saturday. Solo and her teammates had very little trouble with the chippy Colombian team, winning by a score of 3-0.
Solo only faced a handful of shots, none of which really came close to getting past her. Megan Rapinoe scored the first goal for Team USA, connecting on a ball at the 33-minute mark. The Colombian defense held strong throughout the middle portions of the match, but they would eventually wear down late.
Abby Wambach scored a beautiful goal in the box at the 74-minute mark. She was followed just three minutes later by Carli Lloyd, who connected in the 77th minute to increase the lead to 3-0.
It was a great start for Team USA Soccer.
