Wayne Gretzky Wants NHL In Seattle, Meets With Bellevue Officials

As the people of Washington pine for a new arena for an NBA and NHL to call their home, one person of interest has taken an interest of his own in bringing pro hockey back to the Seattle area; none other that The Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky.

According to a report from MyNorthwest.com Gretzky was in town to meet with Bellevue officials about the prospect of the new stadium.

Chris Hansen, the man behind the Seattle arena plan, has said that he and his investment group would bring in an NBA team if his arena plan is approved by Seattle City and King County councils. He has left any NHL outlets to outside investors.

Hansen's plan is designed for Seattle's SoDo district, not in Bellevue. Nevertheless, some in Bellevue have voiced their desire for an arena on the Eastside. Gretzky's meeting is the first inking of any investor to approach Bellevue.

Hansen has already spent more than $35 million in the SoDo district for the potential arena location. He may very well end up having an NHL counterpart right across the water.
