There are several track stars competing at the London Olympics that have Seattle connections. Here's a brief description of each of them and the events they'll be competing for gold as members of the United States track team.
- Jarred Rome is originally from Seattle, headed off to Boise State for college, and will be competing in the men's discus. Rome missed Beijing, but did make it to Athens where he finished 13th.
- Jamie Nieto hails from Seattle, went to school in Eastern Michigan, and will be competing in his second Olympic games in the men's high jump. Nieto just fell short of the podium in 4th place in Athens in 2004.
- Kara Patterson the women's javelin thrower went to school in Purdue, but is originally from Seattle.
- Aretha Thurmond will be competing in the women's discus. Her hometown is Seattle and she went to school at the University of Washington.
