Danny Hultzen made his longest and best start in AAA yesterday and Tacoma beat Sacramento by a score of 2-1. Great pitching and no hitting? Hey Danny, it's like you're already a Mariner!
Hultzen went 6 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, and 8 K. It was the most innings, most strikeouts, fewest hits, and fewest walks that Hultzen has allowed in five AAA starts thus far. Overall, he is now 1-1, 3.52 ERA, 30 K, 17 BB, and 25 hits allowed in 23 innings for Tacoma.
Stephen Pryor, amping up for a return to the big leagues, pitched a scoreless seventh inning with 1 hit allowed, no runs, no walks, and one strikeout. Bobby LaFramboise and Steven Hensley actually combined for 7.2 innings of scoreless relief and Scott Savastano picked up the win by pitching the 18th inning and the hitting the walk-off home run. Now THAT'S how you earn a win.
Nick Franklin was 0-for-6 with five strikeouts and Mike Carp was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Meanwhile down in Everett, Victor Sanchez had a bad start for the Aquasox. The 17-year-old phenom allowed 7 R, 6 ER in 4 innings with 6 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Mike Zunino was 0-for-2 with two walks in the 11-4 loss. He's hitting .412/.500/1.000 in five games.
Also, reasonably hot fire.
