M's Affiliate Jackson Generals Has All of the Stars; Send 7 to All-Star Game

Per Larry Stone, the Jackson Generals are so talented that they’ll basically be playing the Southern League All-Star game by themselves.

Nick Franklin, Danny Hultzen, Taijuan Walker, Carter Capps, Jesus Sucre, Denny Almonte and Joe Dunigan will be representing the Generals and show that they are the true “Yankees” of the minor leagues.

I’ve spoken to death on how amazing Hultzen, Walker, and Franklin have been so I won’t quite go there again (really amazing) but just a quick update on the rest.

I talked about Almonte earlier and how he’s improved this season, hitting .289/.369/.469 with 9 HR and 12 SB in 57 games while reducing strikeouts.

I’ve spoken a lot about Capps, a future M’s regular in the bullpen. He’s pitched 29.1 innings with a 1.53 ERA and 44 strikeouts against 7 walks. RHB are hitting .169 against him.

Sucre, a catcher, is hitting .316/.358/.362 with 1 HR. Hey, when you’re a catcher you can do that and be an All-Star, right Dan Wilson?!

Joe Dunigan is hitting .274/.342/.497 with 8 HR and 24 RBI with 8 SB. He may never make the majors but he’s hit for power in the minors.

Left off is the injured James Paxton, one of the organizations top 5 prospects, but he’s missed over a week and before that had struggled with his command, walking 32 in 46.1 innings.

The Generals are 37-23 and of course in first place in the North Division of the Southern League. Expect them to lose some games after all of these All-Stars are promoted.
