Taijuan Walker, the top prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization and popping up on top 10 prospect lists in all of baseball, is now making his thirteenth start for the Jackson Generals this season. He is trying to right a ship that’s been wobbly in the month of June.
After being well above-average for the first two months of the season, Walker has struggled to find that brand of control and dominance that he displayed earlier this year after allowing 13 ER in 12.2 innings with 15 strikeouts and 9 walks in June. Overall, the teenager has a 3.79 ERA with 59 K and 23 BB in 57 innings on the year.
He is facing Huntsville right now and already completed a scoreless, hitless first inning. He went 4 innings in his last start against Huntsville with 4 hits, 2 ER, 4 K and 2 BB. The Generals are already up 3-0 in the first inning today.
