College World Series 2012: Oregon Ducks Defeat Austin Peay In Controversial 9th Inning

The Oregon Ducks rallied in the ninth inning against Austin Peay in their opening game of the 2012 College World Series, but it did not come without controversy. The Ducks trailed late on Friday night, but a missed call on a tag from the Peay pitcher tied the game. UO then finished off the rally to claim a 6-5 victory.

The Ducks tied the score in the ninth when Brett Thomas hit a single back to pitcher Tyler Rogers. Tyler Rogers, the closer for Austin Peay, attempted to tag Oregon's J.J. Altobelli as he made his way to the plate, but the umpire ruled his tag missed the runner. A photo would show the tag was indeed made, but the umpires did not overrule the call.

Aaron Payne came in to score the game-winning run when Austin Peay third baseman Greg Bachman couldn't handle a ball hit at him by Kyle Garlick.

A win is a win, and now the Ducks will prepare to face Cal-State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. from Eugene.
