Jackson Generals Sweep Doubleheader, Taijuan Walker Starts Today

The Seattle Mariners AA Affiliate Jackson Generals swept Pensacola in a doubleheader yesterday by scores of 6-1 and 2-1. Brandon Mauer pitched a seven inning complete game in the opener, allowing four hits and one run with five strikeouts.

C Jesus Sucre went 4-for-4 with two RBI and has collected fifteen hits in his last eight games. 3B Francisco Martinez went 2-for-2 with two walks. Martinez has struggled this season but is hitting .300/.378./.425 in his last ten games and has 19 stolen bases this season.

Jandy Sena pitched 4.1 shutout innings in game two and Steven Hensley picked up the win by going three innings and gave up a hit and a run with four strikeouts. Carter Capps pitched two hitless, scoreless innings in the middle with four strikeouts of his own. Capps, one of the M’s top relief prospects, has a 1.65 ERA this season.

Martinez was 2-for-5 in the 2-1 victory.

Top prospect Nick Franklin went 0-for-7 on the day.

Other top prospect and one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, Taijuan Walker, makes his tenth start of the season at 4:15 this afternoon.
