Jackson Wins First Half Title and a Look at "90s Night with Mr. Belding"

The Jackson Generals defeated the Jacksonville Suns yesterday to finish the first half of the Southern League schedule with a league-best 39-26 record. They easily took the North division while Mobile, the Diamondbacks affiliate that featured Trevor Bauer, Tyler Skaggs, and Patrick Corbin, finished at 38-27.

Nick Franklin went 2-for-5 in the 8-0 victory while All-Stars Jesus Sucre and Joe Dunigan also had a 2-for-5 night themselves.

Brandon Mauer (5-1) went 7.1 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts and only 1 walk allowed. All-Star Carter Capps pitched a shutout, hitless inning with 1 K and 2 walks allowed. All-Star replacement Bobby LaFromboise (the Generals 8th All-Star named this season) also got an out for Jackson in relief.

The Generals have been every bit as good as they were hyped up to be plus a whole lot more, but one has to expect that the team will be a shell of it’s former self when players like Danny Hultzen, James Paxton, and Franklin are eventually promoted. But hey, that’s why they have a “First Half Title” right?

I also want to talk about a poll on the Jackson Generals website regarding “What is your most anticipated promotion for the 2012 baseball season?”:

- World’s Largest BBQ Sandwich Ribfest
- Half Pint Brawlers Midget Wrestling
- Elvis Tribute Night
- 90s Night featuring Mr. Belding

Dear Major League Baseball, you could learn a thing or two from your younger brothers. You need more 90s nights with people like Mr. Belding. Thanks!
