NFL Looks To Toughen DUI Arrest Penalties

According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the NFL is looking to crack down and "increase the penalties" for players who are arrested for DUI.

The league has wanted to up the punishment for years now and after two recent arrests - Justin Blackmon and David Diehl - the subject is back at the forefront of the NFL.

↵

As it currently stands, a DUI results in a one-game check fine (up to $50,000) with possible suspensions for repeat offenders.

↵

The NFLPA has resisted upgrading the penalties for players but not because they aren't thinking about the safety of the players - they just don't want to give anymore power to the already totalitarian amount commissioner Roger Goodell has now.

Makes sense. But the arrests do need to stop. As many people want to hang out with football players, it shouldn't take but two minutes to assign someone as the designated driver. The nicer the car, the better.
