2012 French Open Results: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer Advance On Friday

There was yet another day of tennis on Friday at Roland Garros for the 2012 French Open. Despite a few early upsets to a couple of big-name players, many of the favorites are still in contention. Here is a recap of the day's matches.

No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic advanced 3-0 over unranked Nicolas Devilder. Djokovic won the first set 6-1, and the final two by a score of 6-2.

Roger Federer continued his strong play against Nicolas Mahut as he went on to win 3-1. Federer won the first set, and after dropping the second set 6-4 he rallied to win the final two sets easily.

In what was the match of the day, No. 11 Gilles Simon defeated No. 18 Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets. Wawrinka won the first set 7-5, and then Giles won the second and third 7-6 in tiebreakers (7-5, 7-3). Wawrinka rallied nicely in the final two sets to win though, 6-3 and 6-2. It appeared that Simon had simply run out of energy after hours of competition.

No. 5 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga swept Fabio Fognini in three sets to advance. In what was the biggest upset of the day on the men's side, No. 22 Andreas Seppi defeated Fernando Verdasco 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

On the women's side of the tournament most everything held true to form. No. 1 seed Victoria Azarenka won in two sets, as did No. 2 Maria Sharapova over Ayumi Morita (6-1, 6-1).
