The Seattle Sounders Women beat the Colorado Rush 2-1, handing Colorado (3-1) their first loss of the season on Thursday night at Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila. Seattle (2-0) drew first blood in the 19th minute when Megan Manthey scored a goal assisted by Sydney Leroux.
The Sounders later went up 2-0 after a goal by Veronica Perez on a free kick in the 49th minute. These two goals were the first goals allowed by Colorado all season long. A header in the 61st minute by Colorado's Lindsey Horan brought the Rush within one goal, but the Sounders defense held up for the rest of the game.
Thursday night's game was the first opportunity for fans in the Seattle area to see the Sounders in a competitive game, their previous three "home" games have been exhibitions against local college teams.
The Sounders Women have a quick turnaround as they travel north to take on the Victoria Highlanders on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. PT kickoff.
