Washington Huskies Basketball Recruiting Profiles: Aaron Gordon

Lorenzo Romar and his coaching staff only signed two transfers this past recruiting season, leading many to believe Washington's coaching staff is saving its time, energy and scholarships for players coming out of the class of 2013. Aaron Gordon is a powerful, bouncy and extraordinary power forward prospect from San Jose, CA. This past March, Gordon led Archbishop Mitty to its second straight championship victory, putting up 33 points and grabbing 20 rebounds on the big stage. Gordon has his eyes set on making it a 3-peat by the end of his time at Archbishop Mitty. The brother of 2012 NBA draft prospect Drew Gordon is an exciting prospect himself because of his dual ability to post up and take his man off the dribble on offense. Gordon is out indefinitely this summer due to a broken bone in his foot. It is unclear on how long he will be out with this injury according to this report on ESPN.

Scouting Report:

When it comes to effort and bounce there are few prospects that can compete with Gordon. The ultra-bouncy 4/3 has an evolving offensive game, great hands, and a contagious competitive spirit. He is relentless around the paint area getting numerous tip-ins and dunks. (Via: ESPN)

A versatile and unique four-man, Gordon is a very good defender, who specializes in rebounding and starting the break by pushing the ball up the court. (Via: Scout.com)

Fitting in at Washington:
Though Gordon would likely be a one-and-done player, his contributions as a Husky could be invaluable. Right now, he is more developed, talented, and explosive than the three power forwards on the Husky roster (Jernard Jerreau, Martin Breunig and Shawn Kemp Jr.). Those three players will all be juniors by the time Gordon enters as a freshman, meaning the power forward position will be crowded. Gordon would thrive in the fast-pace and free-flowing Lorenzo Romar offense. Romar and his staff have found success with guys like Jon Brockman, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Spencer Hawes, but Gordon would be the best post player to ever wear a Husky uniform if he chose Washington.

Recruit Scoop:
Earlier this month Gordon stated that Washington is "probably" his favorite school right now because of his relationship with the coaching staff. Gordon visited Washington on an unofficial visit back in early November. Though Washington is Gordon's favorite, Romar faces stiff competition against the other schools in Gordon's top five: Arizona, Oregon, Kansas and Kentucky. Sean Miller (Arizona), Dana Altman (Oregon), Bill Self (Kansas) and John Calipari (Kentucky) are all ace recruiters. Miller and Altman both have the west coast advantage, while Calipari can point to his national championship ring and handful of former players now in the NBA.
