Danny Hultzen Has Strongest Start of His Career

His anticipated matchup against Trevor Bauer was cancelled yesterday after Bauer was promoted, but if Danny Hultzen continues to pitch like this, he’ll find himself in AAA soon as well.

Hultzen went 7 innings and allowed 3 hits, 1 ER with 8 strikeouts and only 1 walk. This coming after he had allowed 11 walks in his last 11.1 innings. After the game, Hultzen mentioned it’s something he’s been working on with pitching coach Lance Painter:

“I had been doing a lot of work with our pitching coach after this string of starts where I was walking everybody,” said Hultzen. “We sat down and tried to figure out what was going on, and it was a tremendous help working with a guy that knowledgeable about the game. Watching video, making little adjustments throughout the game that he knows of, a lot of credit to him for that.”

Hultzen matched a season-high for innings, a season-low for walks, and his second-most Ks on the season. He lowered his ERA to 1.81 on the year in 44.2 innings with 44 K and 24 BB.

Jackson ended up beating Mobile by a score of 4-2.
