It has been a tough day for 2/3rds of the Mariners beautiful trio of pitching prospects. Yes, we’ve got to pray. PRAY. Pray. PRAY. We’ve got to pray just to make it today. (MC Hammer reference, to be safe.)
The Jackson Generals are playing a double-header against Tennessee today and it could have been a glorious day seeing James Paxton and Taijuan Walker each pitch but it couldn’t go much worse. In game one, Paxton went 3 innings and allowed 3 hits, 4 walks, 5 ER, 2 HR and just two strikeouts in a 15-4 loss. Yoervis Medina came into the game in relief of Paxton and allowed 6 ER in a single inning.
Steven Proscia, recently promoted from High Desert, hit two home runs for the Generals.
But the game will be remembered instead for Paxton taking a step back after he was so much more efficient in his previous three outings. Could it get much worse than this? Hello Taijuan Walkers ankle!
The M’s top prospect (in my humble opinion) came into the second game tonight and went 2.2 innings, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K before he exited after apparently favoring his ankle after covering first base. The trainer came out and Walker was pulled.
Considering that he is still a teenager and the M’s are being as cautious with him as a high school science student is with an egg, it could be nothing. Let’s pray that it is nothing.
The Generals currently lead the game 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Follow here.
