The Players Championship 2012, Leaderboard Update: Ian Poulter Takes The Lead, Tiger Woods Falls Behind

The 2012 Players Championship is underway at TPC Sawgrass, and it was another beautiful day for golf in lovely Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Scoring was prime in the morning, and scoring was low on day one, lead by Englishman Ian Poulter and his stunning round of 7-under 65.

Poulter was simply on fire on the course today, firing eight birdies on round including three in a row to begin the back nine. His lone blemish on his scorecard was a bogey on the fourth hole, but was nearly perfect aside from that, hanging on to a one shot lead.

Blake Adams sits right behind Poulter as the lone man at 6-under, while Kevin Na and Ben Crane both fired 5-under 67's.

As for Tiger Woods, who missed the cut last week at the Wells Fargo Championship, simply couldn't get any momentum going today, starting his day bogey-birdie-bogey followed by bogies on 10, 15, and 18. He did manage to birdie par-3's 13 and 17, but would limp into the clubhouse with a final score of two-over 74.
