With day three drawing to a close at the 2012 Masters Tournament, Peter Hanson has pulled into the lead, shooting 7-under on the day to stand at 9-under in total. Phil Mickelson is breathing down his neck, though, having shot 6-under for day three and 8-under overall. Louis Oosthuizen is in third with two holes left to play, shooting 3-under on the day and 7-under in total.
Hanson's day has been quite a performance, opening with a bogey but quickly improving and ending the day with eight birdies. Mickelson shot exactly par through the first nine holes, but picked it up in the back half with birdies on holes ten, twelve, fifteen, and eighteen. Oosthuizen also suffered an early bogey, but similar to Hanson didn't stumble any further and is closing strong, gaining his fifth birdie on hole seventeen.
Seattle's own Fred Couples opened the day in the lead but ended in twelfth place, shooting 3-over on the day to end at only 2-under. He's tied there with Northwestern golfer Ben Crane, who shot par on the day to settle at 2-under.
