Paxton K's 10 in Jackson Win, Rainiers Comeback from 7-1 Deficit to Win

James Paxton had a solid 2012 debut yesterday, striking out 10 in 5.2 innings and walking none with two hits allowed in the 2-1 Jackson Generals win. Shortstop Nick Franklin went 2-for-4 with a RBI and Carter Capps picked up his first save of the season after striking out four in 1.2 innings.

Rich Poythress drove in the other run and third baseman Francisco Martinez was 1-for-2 with a run.

The Generals and Barons face off again at 4:05 PST with Brandon Mauer facing off against former Padres top prospect Simon Castro. You can listen to the game here.

The Tacoma Rainiers also won, beating the Salt Lake Bees 8-7 after being down 7-1 in the fourth inning. Carlos Peguero went 3-for-3 with a home run and a double, and Trayvon Robinson went 3-for-5. Angels’ top prospect Mike Trout went 2-for-5 in the loss.

Starter Jeff Marquez got knocked around for seven runs in four innings, but Shawn Kelley handled his “demotion” well, picking up the save after two scoreless innings.

Mauricio Robles faces off against Eric Hurley at 7:05 PST.
