The Western Washington Vikings and Montevallo Falcons are battling for a piece of history in the 2012 NCAA Division II national championship game.
The Vikings lead the Falcons 30-26 at halftime in Saturday afternoon's matchup at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.
Neither team has taken control in the first 20 minutes, with five ties and 12 lead changes. Western Washington is getting balanced scoring from its lineup with seven players scoring in the first half. Sophomore guard Richard Woodworth leads the Vikings with seven points, six rebounds and three assists.
Standout senior DJ Rivera leads Montevallo and all scorers with nine points. The Falcons went nine-for-33 from the field, shooting a dismal 27.3 percent in the first half. On the other hand, Western Washington is shooting 50 percent from the field and is 4-for-11 from beyond the arc. The Vikings only attempted two free throws in the first half.
