WIAA State Basketball Tournament 2012: Central Valley Advances Past Union, 52-51

The Central Valley Bears rebounded their way to victory and won their 19th straight game in Friday's 4A semifinal at the Tacoma Dome. Their 52-51 victory over Union puts the Bears in their first state title game since 1986.

Union held a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, but an 11-3 run by the Bears in the second quarter gave the Bears a three-point advantage heading into halftime. Central Valley extended its lead to six in the third quarter and then put the Bears away in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

A three-pointer from the left corner by Central Valley junior Dustin Dach gave the Bears a commanding 47-37 lead with 4:51 to go. The Titans were able to whittle down the lead to one point after Union's Jordan Chatman hit a full-court shot. Chatman hit a two-pointer with two seconds on the clock that was originally judged to be a three-pointer by the officials.

Chatman finished with a game high 29 points. Central Valley senior Gavin Deyarmin led the Bears with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Central Valley will face A.C. Davis at 3 p.m. in the 4A state championship game, while Union will play Bellarmine Prep for third place at 1 p.m..
