MANNING WATCH: DAY TEN

In case you were wondering about my all caps title, please know that it is supposed to read tongue in cheek and is a play on Brian Fantana's compelling and rich Panda Watch segments (apparently this is the only youtube video of that). Anyway, I digress. The Peyton Manning free agency saga reaches day ten today, and brings him hopefully a day closer to signing with a team so we can all stop hearing about where he's flying to.

The big news today is that the darkhorse, the sleepers, the San Francisco 49ers, are indeed the mystery third team in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes, and if you're just catching up now, the two other leading candidates are the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos. Ultimately, the winner of the aforementioned sweepstakes is going to have to pay a lot of money to secure the future hall of fame quarterback, but the rumored asking price might shock you.

According to the Denver Post's Mike Klis, and via PFW, Klis has now "said that what Manning is actually seeking is a contract like the one he signed last year with the Colts, which was for five years and $90 million, with a whopping $61.8 million in the first two years."

Say that again to yourself: $61.8 million over the first two years.

This concludes MANNING WATCH DAY TEN (part one).
