In fitting game to end an exciting 14 hours of basketball at the Tacoma Dome, the Central Valley Bears beat the Garfield Bulldogs 53-52. Central Valley (21-3).
Garfield's (19-6) junior forward Trevaunte Williams made a buzzer-beating lay-in as time expired, but it was only worth two points and not the needed three.
A 40-point second half keyed Central Valley's victory, with senior guard Gaven Deyarmin leading the way with 14 points. The Bulldogs' 19 turnovers made the difference, especially in the game's final minutes. Starting guards Pierre Wright and Demario Hall both had four turnovers.
Junior wing Tucker Haymond led all scorers with 17 points. Haymond also pulled down eight rebounds and distributed eight assists in the victory. He was a perfect seven-for-seven from the free-throw line.
Not one team led by more than six points in the game.
Central Valley will face Union on Friday at 9 p.m., while Garfield will face Jackson at 2 p.m. on Friday.
