WCC Tournament 2012: University of Portland vs University of San Francisco

Game 2: 6 p.m. - No. 5 San Francisco Dons vs. No. 8 Portland Pilots (BYUtv / ESPN3)

What to know: If you read about the game between the Portland Pilots and the Santa Clara Broncos last night, you'll likely notice one key stat standing out. The Broncos only had one turnover, yet still managed to lose 74-70. The Pilots responded in typical Portland fashion, doing what it takes to just barely win, and that included going 16 of 17 from the charity stripe, shooting 57% from the field, and shooting 50% from three-point range.

The San Francisco Dons played two very different games against Portland Pilots this year, winning on the road 72-71 and absolutely crushing them at home 104-70. The Dons are hardly the most athletic team in the league, but they have successfully bought into Coach Rex Walters game plan. The Dons are a balanced attack on offense with four players averaging double digit points, and trap relentlessly on defense. They led the WCC in steals at 8.5 a game and were second in the league in turnover margin at +2.4.

Who is going to win: Both teams are officially playing with nothing to lose, but owing to the conference wins this year, the San Francisco Dons will pull off another victory. Their only way to the big dance is by winning this tournament, and the win against the Gonzaga Bulldogs earlier this year provided enough fuel for a glimmer of hope.
