78th Annual MTR Western Sports Star of the Year nominees announced

Reflecting on another great year of sports out of the Seattle area.

Another great year of Seattle sports is wrapping up. As the calendar turns to 2013, the 78th Annual MTR Western Sports Star of the Year will be named. Other awards, which are all voted on by the fans, will also be given out.

As for the Star of the Year, the two favorites appear to be Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and Sounders forward Alex Morgan. Morgan also helped lead the United States to a gold medal in women's soccer at the 2012 Olympics.

- Drew Snider (Maryland, Stealth lacrosse)

- David DeCastro (Stanford football)

Female Sports Star of the Year

- Mary Whipple (Olympic rower)

- Ariana Kukors (Olympic swimmer)

- Katie Flood (Washington cross country and track)

- Marti Malloy (Olympic judo)

- Jennie Reed (Olympic cycling)

Sports Story of the Year

- The Mariners' Felix Hernandez throws perfect game.

- Washington men's rowing completes unbeaten season and sweeps IRA national championships.

- Montesano High football goes from fire to Class 1A state title.

- Bellevue High football wins 10th Class 3A state title in 12 years.

- Western Washington men's basketball wins the NCAA Division II national title
