NCAA men's basketball rankings: Gonzaga dips to four spots

The Zags dropped to No. 14 in this week's AP poll following a close win over Washington State and a loss to illinois.

US PRESSWIRE

The Gonzaga Bulldogs suffered a bit of a scare Wednesday night when the Washington St. Cougars took them to the final horn. A Kevin Pangos lay-up with just over two seconds to go helped Gonzaga to their 71-69 win but they wouldn't be so lucky on Saturday against the Illinois Fighting Illini. A 85-74 loss to the visitors from Champaign dropped the Bulldogs from No. 10 to No. 14 in this week's Associated Press poll. The Fighting Illini move into the spot the Zags previously occupied at No. 10.

Gonzaga will only get one opportunity to better their ranking this week as they face the Kansas St. Wildcats on Saturday in the Battle in Seattle at KeyArena.

Meanwhile, the Washington Huskies competition in the Pac-12 continues to get more staunch. The Arizona Wildcats moved up to No. 8 in this week's poll. They have a tough test this Saturday against the No. 5 Florida Gators at home. The Oregon Ducks pulled down 177 points in the poll and tied with the Pittsburgh Panthers for No. 26 in the rankings.
