Oregon vs. USC: Ducks strike early and often, lead Trojans 14-3 after 1st quarter

Marcus Mariota threw for a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter for the No. 4 Oregon Ducks, including an early 16-yard connection with running back De'Anthony Thomas, ending the first quarter of play with a 14-3 lead over the No. 17 USC Trojans.

The Ducks opened the game needing only five plays to drive the field for 75 yards and the score, taking just 1:05 off the clock. Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota was perfect in the passing game, completing all seven of his pass attempts for 117 yards.

After holding the Trojans to a field goal on their drive, the Ducks were able to force star quarterback Matt Barkley into a turnover, intercepting the senior quarterback when the Trojans were in the red zone.

Running back Silas Redd starred for the Trojans in the first quarter, breaking several tackles and running hard for 35 yards in six carries.
