Seattle will be a marathon town this weekend as the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon takes over. The big race is on Sunday, Nov. 25 and includes a half marathon as well. Both races have a running category and a walking category. There is also a wheelchair division, which will be contested on Sunday as well. The 10k race, a 5k race and a kids marathon are on Saturday.

Founded in 1970, the Seattle Marathon is now the biggest combination marathon/half marathon in the northwest, having grown from 38 runners 42 years ago to 17,000 this year. Now it also includes a health expo, which will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Westin Seattle.

Runners can register for the marathon until Saturday. There is no same-day registration and there is no same-day bib and chip pick up, either, for those who are registered. Bib and chip pick up is at the health expo, in the fourth floor ballroom.

The marathon walk is the first race to begin on Sunday, getting underway at 7:15 a.m. PT. The half marathon run begins at 7:30 a.m. and the half marathon walk is at 7:45 a.m. That sets the stage for the marathon at 8:15 a.m., wrapping up the day with the biggest and most prestigious of the races.
